I always liked Witherspoon and thought it was a mistake to trade him for Brandon Gibson. If he still has game, what do you think the chances are that he could wind up starting ahead of McDonald? At least for a while. He'd be a veteran presence that already knows the system. McDonald can learn from him.

I would say his chances are zero......as McDonald is a Safety and Spoon is a Linebacker.

allright, I got ya. I'll split the difference with you........as you said, I think Ogletree can learn a lot from Spoon. However, I don't think Spoon is going to beat out Ogletree for a starting spot. Unless he just can't pick up the playbook, Ogletree's athleticism (which is better than Spoon's in his prime, even more so at 32) should plant him firmly in the starting WILL spot.

I agree with you except the part where he is more athletic than Spoon in his prime. I remember speed being the name of his game, and Spoon's combine numbers beat Ogletree's across the board. I'd say at worst, Spoon's athleticism was equal to Ogletree's.

All of this is irrelevant of course. At this point in time Ogletree is certainly more athletic than Witherspoon. And I'd be shocked beyond belief if Spoon were able to beat out any of our linebackers for a starting job. But, he was a good player for us in the past and he's a nice veteran insurance policy in case of injuries and the like.

Absolutely. From what I've read it seems WW is a health promoter and stays in excellent shape, mind and body. Still, at 32 he will allow the newer generation of athlete, Ogletree, to earn his place in the roster. But as you said, Witherspoon is a fine veteran / reserve player, great character, example for others to learn from.

Solid move with no downside. Witherspoon can still make plays, adds veteran depth, and will be another experienced mentor for Ogletree. I like it.

One of those signings where virtually nothing bad can come from it, and it only adds good things to the team. I'm very pleased with bringing WW back!

yea, I concede that point. As impressive an athlete as Ogletree is, Spoon was no slouch in that department either. You're right.

Just for the record: Spoon ran a 4.68 at the combine (back in 2002)
    I believe Ogretree ran a 4.69 .. (with a bad attitude) ..

Which is bettter for a LB:

    a) 4.68 with a normal 'give all' attitude or, b) 4.69 with a 'bad attitude'?
