    We shall see.
I'll bet it's more like the Raiders were embarrassed with how much they gave him and were looking for the best way to get out of the contract. I don't know, that's just the way my mind works.

You're actually not the first person I've heard suggest this. With the Raiders, nothing would surprise me.

That...does not sound out of the realm of possibilities, actually. Especially considering the shoulder was injured preseason according to Nick Wagoner, so it held up the rest of the year. Hadn't considered that, but now that's very much in my mind.

Either that or Saffold regretted leaving an up and coming Rams team and failed the physical on purpose lol

Jim Thomas speculates Saffold's deal with Rams will be similar to the final offer they gave him before he signed with Oakland, "which was just under $6 million per year, with playing-time incentives that could take overall value substantially higher."

6 mil a year is what I originally felt was appropriate for him; great job by the Rams FO to take advantage of a weird situation.

Well also kudos to the front office in building good will with the players and not trying to take advantage and undercut their previous offer. Signing him to the same deal they initially offered anyway will help with other player relations too.

Great point berg, most teams would have tried to take advantage of the situation and low-ball Saffold… shows what kind of classy organization the Rams are

Let's just hope the Rams don't find the same shoulder issue. One team passes him with flying colors, the other flunks him. Seems kind of odd, unless the Faiders had buyers remorse and "doctored" the physical.

If Saffold is 100% healthy, getting him back works for me.

Long, Wells, Saffold, and perhaps Dahl. Talk about a glass line. I hope some depth is in the works.

Saffold's agents said the Rams had "no concerns whatsoever" about his shoulder.

Maybe it was buyers remorse after all.

Re: Schefter: Saffold returning to St. Louis to sign five-year deal

    Rodger Saffold - T - Rams

Rams agreed to terms with G/T Rodger Saffold on a five-year contract.
Simply beyond belief. After having his five-year, $42.5 million ($15.75 million guaranteed) agreement with the Raiders torn up over concerns with his shoulder, Saffold returns to the team that took him in the second round of the 2010 draft. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Rams have "no concerns whatsoever" with Saffold's shoulder. Signed to man the blindside in Oakland, Saffold will likely play guard in St. Louis, though he could start the year at left tackle if Jake Long (ACL) isn't ready. The Rams' line was looking worrisomely thin before Saffold fell back into their laps. Oakland is back to Square 1 in a tackle market that's already been picked over.
