Re: Schefter: Saffold returning to St. Louis to sign five-year deal

5 yr $30 million is being reported.

Saffold will be far better off at guard too than LT. Boudreau says he is average LT, possibly pro bowl G.

If he stays healthy, the Rams got very lucky.

I think the Raiders got buyers remorse.

I said as long as its under 6 million annually it's an amazing deal for us. Wow we are so lucky. One hole down with an excellent guard.

Rodger Saffold going back to Rams
    Updated: March 12, 2014, 10:53 PM ET
    By Adam Schefter | ESPN.com

After a disagreement in Oakland on Rodger Saffold's physical condition, he is returning to St. Louis to sign a five-year contract with the Rams, his agents Alan Herman and Jared Fox said Wednesday night.

So the Rams get back an offensive lineman and the Raiders are back to square one at left tackle.

Herman and Fox said there was a strong disagreement on Saffold's physical condition. The Raiders had concerns about his shoulder; the Rams had "no concerns whatsoever" about his shoulder.

Herman and Fox contacted their doctors, Dr. Frank Cordasco at the Hospital For Special Surgery in New York, who studied Saffold's MRIs. His review indicated nothing was wrong with Saffold's shoulder.

So funny all these people "in the know" referring to Saffold as the Raiders LT target.

His agent said there is absolutely nothing wrong with his shoulder.... Funny, does anyone actually think he'd say anything but? LOL

But I'm bettin' Saffold got there, looked around and said to himself; "what the hell was I thinking? ...the Raiders?"

    Rodger Saffold - T - Rams

NFL.com's Mike Silver reports it was Raiders owner Mark Davis who nixed the Rodger Saffold deal.
Davis apparently had concerns about the shoulder Saffold injured last preseason. Per Silver, Saffold "could have had surgery and been ready for training camp," but Davis wouldn't have it. It's a troubling development for many reasons. It shows a lack of faith in GM Reggie McKenzie, and is an indication that, despite his protestations to the contrary, Davis has some of his father's management style to him. Davis has left egg on his GM's face, and his offensive line without a left tackle. It's a sad state of affairs in Oakland.

The shoulder was injured. I doubt the shoulder is in perfect condition. The raiders couldn't live with it the Rams can. A lot of money for a part time player. Still too many questions with this OL for my comfort.

Rams initially offered 6 mil a year Oakland offered him 8.4. I guarantee that the deal is now probably 5.5 mil a year if not 5 with a 12 mil signing bonus.

Re: Schefter: Saffold returning to St. Louis to sign five-year deal

If we still manage to sign Davin Joseph, we have a line that could look like this:

LT Long LG Saffold C Wells RG Joseph RT Barksdale

I know Saffold started at RG last year but I really think it was done not to disrupt continuity with Chris Williams starting all 16 games at LG. He should really have no problem settling in on that side of the line. Looks solid to me.

Or the alternative is we let Joseph leave without a contract and address it in the draft, whether it's with Matthews or Robinson and let the pieces fall into place that way.

LOL! As I started reading this thread I started thinking about you: "Now where is our RFRH?"

Right now I'm happy to learn of Saffold's U Turn. All he needs to do is arm wrestle with the Rams DL to get that shoulder in shape and ready!

Saffold is an unreliable gimp. He's played one full season out of his 4. They still need to take the best of the 2 OL with that first pick.

This is nice. I'd rather be looking for depth at OG than a starting OG. Happy, happy.

Lol true, either that or some ex-con Raiders fan stabbed him in the shoulder as soon as he got off the plane in Oakland
