Scotty Boy is #28
MSNBC has him ranked as the 28th best coach in the NFL. They also have lovie smith as 9th, so I'm not sure what they're looking at. That guy has only had two winning seasons with the Bears. I guess two out of four winning seasons puts you in the top 10...

What did Gruden do besides steal his Super Bowl win from the Faiders?

Re: Scotty Boy is #28
A worthwhile note....
The only coaches ranked "behind" Linehan appear to be there by default. They are:
29. Tony Sparano
30. Jim Zorn
31. Mike Smith
32. John Harbaugh
Those are all brand new Head Coaches.....combined 0-0."Before the gates of excellence the high gods have placed sweat; long is the road thereto and rough and steep at first; but when the heights are reached, then there is ease, though grievously hard in the winning." --- Hesiod

Re: Scotty Boy is #28
After a 3-13 Season you think he should be ranked any higher?

Re: Scotty Boy is #28
Beers, Sparano is the Dolphins coach, so he's one better than Sparano, which is not quite like being one better than 10 on an amp.
I'd probably put Kiffin below Linehan, but no playoffs and a 3-13 season last year, I'd probably put him that low, yeah. Worst one to not get fired or somehow amazingly hold on to his job depite the senile owner hating him.

Re: Scotty Boy is #28
Well, Tampa has made the playoffs in 2 of the last 3 seasons. I still wouldn't put him in the top 10, though.
The thing that really sticks out to me about this list is just how many inexperienced head coaches there are right now. McCarthy, Payton, Tomlin, Crennel, Whisenhunt, Mangini, Childress, Kubiak, Marinelli, Kiffin, Nolan, Linehan, Sparano, Zorn, M. Smith, and Harbaugh...not a one of them has been head coach more than 3 years. That's half the league right there.

Granted, but they lost in 2005 and 2006 in the first round. My point was the same as yours though, I wouldn't put Gruden in the top 10, probably top 20, but not top 10.

Re: Scotty Boy is #28
I did post Gruden's career statistics, but for some reason, they didn't appear. I don't really feel like going through the trouble again, but he has only had losing seasons in 3 of his 10 years as HC. He's also been in the playoffs a bunch of times and won a Superbowl. He was also robbed of another Superbowl appearance due to the infamous "Tuck Rule" aka "We love Tom Brady rule".

Re: Scotty Boy is #28
I understand he has had a winning record in the last few years, but I am also saying he is hyped a bit. I personally believe he inherited Tony Dungy's team and then took them and stole back the Super Bowl that was stolen from him. We're on the same page, I just don't think he is an "overall" great coach. Just my opinion.
