Seahawks receive deadline extension for playoff-ticket sales

By Jose Miguel Romero

Seattle Times staff reporter

Seahawks

The NFL has granted the Seahawks a deadline extension to sell more playoff game tickets, in hopes of avoiding a local TV blackout.

The Seahawks are trying to sell what remains of the ticket supply for Saturday's NFC wild-card game against St. Louis at Qwest Field. There are 5,000 tickets still available.

The original blackout deadline was 1:30 p.m. today. The league decided to extend that by 24 hours because of the short turnaround time from Sunday's Seahawks win over the Atlanta Falcons, and the playoff game Saturday.

The Seahawks must get as close to a sellout (66,000) as possible to avoid the blackout. The team has sold 61,000 tickets since Sunday evening.

Tickets are available in several price ranges. Each person can purchase as many as eight with cash or credit card only. They're available by calling (206) 622-HAWK, at www.seahawks.com, or the Qwest Field box office.

Re: Seahawks receive deadline extension for playoff-ticket sales

That's shocking that it didn't sell out sooner. Isn't this the first playoff game in the new stadium?

Re: Seahawks receive deadline extension for playoff-ticket sales

Yes, it is pathetic. But you guys have to realize that people on the west coast aren't as nuts about sports. And Seattle is a pretty big bandwagon town. Nobody in this city ever went to Mariner games until 95 when they made the playoffs for the first time ever. And unfortunately the Hawks have had an up and down season (much like your beloved Lambs), so the average fairweather fan isn't very into the team. And in Seattle we have to have those bandwagon jumpers aboard to sell games out. The thing that really hurt was after the day that tix went on sell the Hawks and the NFL released a bunch more, about 6,000. Most of which were ultra-expensive luxury seats that corporations declined to pony up for. There aren't too many people around that have that type of $$$ that are into the Hawks that aren't already going to the game.

As for fans giving up on a team due to an up and down season, what's up with your board? It used to be almost as active as the board at Seahawks.net where I post, but now it's almost a morgue. It takes forever for people to respond to posts and the same threads sit on the front page all day. Not to knock anyone reading this, you are the diehards and deserve credit, but it seems that the rest of Ram nation isn't too sold and gave up on the team a tad bit prematurely.

Re: Seahawks receive deadline extension for playoff-ticket sales

The difference is that Ram fans are spread over several active boards, rather than congregated on one or two.

This board is just fine.

Re: Seahawks receive deadline extension for playoff-ticket sales

this board is made up of 16 forums.

the seahawks.net is made up of 8

and as a spot example. your board had 18 fans looking over it just now while our board had 96.

so I think we are doing a little better than the picture you are trying to paint.

Re: Seahawks receive deadline extension for playoff-ticket sales

I would be more concerned with you fans buying tickets than the quality of this board.

I use the word "fan" loosely. Sad...is too good a word to use.
