Should we be the favorite to win the west

Now that Alexander will miss what could be several weeks with a broken bone in his foot?

Shaun ran for 51, 89 and 47 yards so far this season. He's expected to miss 1, maybe 2 games. Further, we have a serviceable replacement.

Although it sucks we won't have our best in Chicago, Shaun's been hurting, and struggling, all year and we are still 3-0.

Lets not get crazy now, the Rams still have some work to do.

I'm hearing "several weeks" thats more then one or two. You don't just replace an MVP, just does not happen. To use your words "serviceable replacement" does not sound like MVP.

Here's what Holmgen has had to say:

Holmgren said he isn't sure how long Alexander will be out but it's possible he could miss a month. Holmgren said Alexander's injury is a non-displaced fracture of the foot.

"You lose the MVP for a while, it's a hit," Holmgren said. "Let's face it, he's the MVP. We're not going to sugarcoat it."
This can't be good for Seattle, especially against Chicago.

No, its definitely not good. But its not the end of the world either.

Holmgren's language was "couple weeks." We have a bye after the chicago game.

It sucks, but it could be worse.

Seahawks | Alexander could miss 4-6 weeks
    Mon, 25 Sep 2006 14:58:58 -0700

Updating previous reports, ESPN's John Clayton reports Seattle Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander (foot) may miss four to six weeks of action due to a broken bone in his foot. With the Seahawks having a Bye during Week 5, it is possible he could miss just three games.

Well, you'll get to see what you really have in Maurice Morris. If he can pick up the slack it'll sure help Hasselbeck. If not, it could be a long game for Matt.

Re: Should we be the favorite to win the west

    Whoa there Ram fans....

Yes, Alexander is a former MVP, and he'll undoubtably be missed, but last time I checked, his numbers this year have been very pedistrian. ..as Bela stated. And with those so-so numbers the Hawks scored 21 against the tards(we scored 16) and 42 against the Giants.

What I can see happening is; perhaps the opposition will have gained some advantage now, knowing that SA is not available, whereas, even though he wasn't healthy and the numbers showed that, the defenses still had to account for him. Maybe now they'll change their defensive approach and dare them to run, while loading up against Hasselbeck. ..and maybe, just maybe, their offensive production will suffer.

So, in answer to the question, I'd have to say "no". But I like our chances just a little bit better....

Until we beat the Seachickens straight up, we shouldn't be favored to win anything IMO.

as the saying goes...."to be the man, you have to beat the man". Until we get it done on the field it doesn't matter what we're "favored" to do.

There's no way that our performances thus far justify a favourites tag for a divisional win. Wehave shown promise to be sure, but the absence of Alexander isn't enough to change that on it's own.

How about we beat Seattle first before talk about dethrowning them from atop the NFC West? Even without Alexander, they're still a very dangerous team.

As for Morris filling in, the guy stunk it up against New York, and my impression from other Seahawk fans is that Morris is typically only effective when he comes in and gets carries when not expected. When asked to carry the load, he doesn't get it done. Again, so I hear.

This helps us, but there's no way we take the top without first actually beating those in that position.

I'm not very superstitious but once the madden curse hits a player on a particular team the season is usually a wrap. Alexander was the man and the man just got cursed.
I'm hoping he returns for the rams game though. if we win, no excuses. if we loose....well you know, another day of more negative posts!

there's no way we are the favorites to win the west now that alexander is back. maurice morris is a more than capable backup and now that their wr corps is rock solid from 1-5 they are still the top dog in the nfc, period.

I say we take care of Detroit first, then the next game before we start thinking about the squawks.

Losing Alexander even for a few games will have an effect on their team. If he still happens to be out when we play them, it only helps. But I would rather beat them with Alexander on the field.
