Can someone explain in two sentences why we edged out the 'aints?

Are we the 5th or 6th seed?

I think its because we had a better division record then the AINTS.

Because the Rams, Saints and Vikings all ended up 8-8, the head to head is irrelevant. It went by Conference record, and the Rams beat out both the Saints and Vikings in that category, giving them the #5 seed.
