Sims down to ***** or Rams

Per RotoWorld:

Free agent OL Barry Sims has reportedly narrowed his choices to the Rams and the ***** and is expected to sign on Monday.

The Ravens are reportedly his third choice. If Sims wants to be a backup left tackle behind a injury-prone starter, he'll likely go to St. Louis. If he wants to back up an injury-prone right tackle, he'll go to San Francisco.

Finally some love for Steussie .. When Pace went down in 06, Todd played very well for us .. I don't know enough about Sims to say Steussie's better, but we could do alot worse than Steussie .. Age could play a factor as Todd's getting up there in years ..

I know next to nothing about this guy. But as mentioned before, Steussie is getting up there in age. So is Sims. This is going to be a tough one.

I'm just glad we weren't seriously thinking of goldberg as a back up LT. If we sign him I think we will look like

LT- Pace, Simms
LG- Bell, Goldberg
C- Coggs, Romberg
RG- Setterstrom, Schuening
RT- Barron, Grecco

Re: Sims down to ***** or Rams

Aside from the fact that i like steussie as a player and his history with the team, i like the idea that he can play guard effectively as well as tackle. That flexibility makes him the better choice from my perspective.

The broken foot steussie suffered in the last exhibition game last year got very little publicity but it freaked me out because i knew (and posted as such) that it left us no flexibility if pace went down. It was a critical injury and when pace did get hurt in week one, coupled with the steussie injury, it really was the beginning of the end of our season.

39thebeast, you are 100% correct. To have Goldberg as a backup @ LT would be a nightmare if Pace goes down. Bulger would have a better chance of surviving getting run over by a semi truck then making it through a game with Goldberg @ LT.

G.C. What do you think is the reason the Rams have not tried to sign Steussie
