    Singletary Daring Those Blasted 'Rats'

    Singletary Daring Those Blasted 'Rats"

    By Mike Sando
    Dec 21

Coach Mike Singletary could not legally or practically submerge his coaching staff in water, pump each assistant with air and wait to see which ones leak.

His decision to withhold information regarding the San Francisco *****' starting quarterback for Week 16 could accomplish a metaphorical equivalent.

Singletary, who complained of "rats" when an unsourced story emerged earlier in the season, said he has already decided on a starter for the *****' must-win game against the St. Louis Rams. Team sources previously betrayed Singletary regarding his 2008 motivational strip show.

Singletary presumably is not the only one in the *****' organization with knowledge of the quarterback decision.

For how long can the ***** keep a secret? Might Singletary make an announcement Wednesday?

Troy Smith started the *****' 23-20 victory over the Rams in Week 10. The ***** converted zero times in 11 third-down chances, but several big pass plays helped San Francisco prevail. That type of production was unsustainable, and Singletary switched back to Alex Smith for the last two games.

Alex Smith and the offense struggled during a 34-7 defeat to San Diego on Thursday night. Both also struggled for much of the *****' victory at St. Louis in Week 17 last season. Alex Smith's 73-yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis in the fourth quarter helped the ***** pull away for a 28-6 victory.

Re: Singletary Daring Those Blasted 'Rats'

Only desperate coaches and bad ones try to keep their starting QB secret from week to week as a means of winning games.
