Geez! Enough already! If you think the Rams should have offered a bit more or structured things differently for Bruce as Nick suggested, fine. But don't tell us that the offer was "lowball." That's just nonsense.

Is it nonsense? I guess that depends on what you think Ike has left in the tank. Some of us feel he is still an elite NFL reciever with more than a few years left.

O well its done and its over with. Nothing we can do now. Its time to move on with our lives even though its a tough loss. We still have Holt and probrably Curtis. No worries about next years offense.

Its not what you think or what I think... its what the market thinks.

If there's a team out there that wants to pay more than $5 million this year, and $10 million over three years, and Bruce wants to go for the money before he retires, he has every right to take that stance.

My bet - and, obviously, the Rams' bet, is that nobody is going to offer Bruce a substantially better deal than the one the Rams put on the table.

    That's how negotiating works.

Re: As it sinks in, I'm more and more angry at Bruce (and his agent)

The one variable in this equation that we don't have is the number that Bruce is actually demanding.

I presume he's not insisting on being paid $10 million this year. But, beyond that, nobody here knows what he is seeking.

It seems that some are of the opinion that the Rams would need to bend only slightly to get the deal done. We don't know that. For all we know, Bruce wants a 3 year $15 million deal. Would you pay that? What if he wants a 4 year, $25 million deal? Would you pay that?

Some seem quick to take the position that Bruce is being screwed by the FO. What's your evidence of that?

I don't think this story is over.

That's true, and at this point we don't know what the market thinks, so "lowball" is a relative matter of opinion.

No, its not. Torry Holt's base salary this year is approximately $3.8 million (and, yes, I know Holt received a hefty bonus a few years back, but so did Bruce).

Bruce is being offered $5 million as a base salary this year.

Objectively, that's not a lowball offer.

    That's incorrect, according to KFFL.

"The team is offering Bruce $9 million over three years, including $5 million this season in the form of roster bonus and signing bonus, according to league sources."

I don't believe we've heard what the actual base salary of the contract would have been.

Re: As it sinks in, I'm more and more angry at Bruce (and his agent)

    That's NFL semantics.

In the real world, if you're guaranteed a set amount of money to be paid over a fixed period of time, that's a salary.

The distinction between "base salary" and "signing bonus," though meaningful for cap purposes, is entirely inconsequential to this discussion.

Bruce has been offered a deal that would pay him $5 million to play this year. That's more than what the Rams are going to pay Torry Holt this year, and I find it hard to believe that anyone (Bruce included) who doesn't think Holt is at least Ike's equal at this point (most would say Holt is clearly better).

So, how does that amount to a "lowball" offer?

Well, it's not a one year contract as I believe you have stated before. You're entitled to your opinion, but "lowball" remains open to interpretation. We're just going to have to wait and see how this all shakes out before we know how that interpretation manifests itself.

Ah, yes... the old "Lewis Carroll" approach...

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I chose it to mean -- nothing less, and nothing more."
But, alas, words actually do have meanings... even slang words like "lowball." The term "lowball" means to undervalue something in an unfair or deliberate manner.

Do you think that the Rams have deliberately undervalued Bruce? If so, to what end?

Do you think that they have unfairly undervalued him? If so, then how do you explain the fact that, under the contract offered, Bruce would be the highest paid receiver on the team this year?

If you believe that everything is subjective and a matter of perspective, then why bother arguing at all?

To quote another great source... "That's not argument, that's just contradiction. An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a definite proposition."

Objective facts and logic say its nonsense. I'm just the messenger.

I guess making fake Bernie M threads is more worthwhile talking about.

Its the nature of pro football, all good things must come to an end. When Bruce retires will sign him so he retires as a Ram.We've lost a lot of good players over the decades.

I'm sorry to see Bruce go as much as anyone, but we gotta move on.

Are we Just Isaac Fans or Ram fans.

It killed me when Dickerson left.

It hurt to lose a lot of players, but we get over it.
My heart beats crazy and my blood runs wild
