Exactly. The Coaches aren't immediately putting him in the fire, but his future is on the left side.

    Re: Smith at Right tackle?

Even though Spags said specifically that "how things start is not always how they unwind", I knew this one would be pounced on. LOL.

It makes sense to me for all the reasons already posted. Let the guy get his feet under him & play to his strengths first-supposedly run blocking,no?- from the right side.Anyhooo, it's 5 practices in shorts, not the playoffs.

I honestly hope Barron wins out on the LT spot in the end, though. For this year, anyway. I don't see how his failing to do so could be anything but a bad thing for The Rams.

Btw, I really like the idea of a combined rookie/vet camp. Spags is nothing if not consistent so far. Team first & ASAP.

I don't care where Smith starts. I just hope he plays hard and makes an impact.

    Re: Smith at Right tackle?

Can we let the coaches evaluate who should be where on the line? One thing's for sure, I know Smith is a hard worker and if he is at the right side, he'll work his ass off to succeed. Whatever makes this offensive line work, so be it.

    Re: Smith at Right tackle?

Some of the clips I've watched of Smith show him on the right side. This eases him into things, rather than immeduiately burdens him with the expectation that he's ultimately responsible for Marc Bulger's health. He knows that long term, that's his role, but he needs time to acclimatise to the NFL.

I've no issue with this at all, even if we start at Seattle with Smith at RT, and given how much noise has been made about Barron disappointing, I can live with him being given a chance to impress at LT.

I hear you MauiRam. I would guess that a #2 overall LT will demand a "HEFTIER" contract than a RT would. In the majority of cases.

    Anyway......

I'd just go on the team's computer, find Chris Long's contract, and do a search and replace ("Smith" for "Long").

    Re: Smith at Right tackle?

From what u guys have said, it does make sense. I thought about it and

he is going to maul people on the right side for the run. Something Alex was

    not great at.

Man I hope your right. I hate them tinkering already with the guy. Were just in such bad shape on the right side. Hey look on the bright side. If we have too we can move him to TE...

No the RAMS aren't getting "cute" at all.

If anybody paid to the Demarco Farr radio interview following the draft then nobody would be acting like there has been any type of final "decision" already made.

The questions as well as the guessing being made here are quite entertaining.

I think your right, unless Barron actually is a pro bowl left next year.

just for fun though...what if we cut marc bulger after this upcoming season ( although i dont want to) and a left handed QB is our starter, wouldnt it be better to let him have expiriance on both sides of the line so no matter who our QB is, he can cover his blindside. thoughts?

Very interesting point that I hadn't considered. I'm pro-Bulger but this has to be close to a make or break year for Marc.

Don't know if there are any good lefty QBs likely to be in the draft next year,do you?

    Re: Smith at Right tackle?

First of all, the right/left tackle stuff isn't as big a deal as in the past, because teams have pass rushers on both sides. Secondly, if Jon Ogden can start his career at guard, and other top picks can be brought along more slowly on the strong side, then what is the big deal.

This is a non issue, not worthy of knowledgeable Clan Ram fans
