    So, was Bulger the problem?

The Rams benched Marc Bulger for Trent Green this week, hoping to get a spark on offense. Green finished the day 17/32 (53%) for 236 yards and one INT while being sacked twice. QB rating was 64.1. Rams lose 31-14 and were scoreless after halftime.

    Discuss.

Too disgusted & dismayed by yet another dismal display to discuss till The Destroyer gets dismissed.

    Short answer: NO

Not to mention that 53 yards came on a meaningless screen pass in "garbage time."

Of course Green was not the answer, as Bulger was not the problem.

As I stated in another thread it didn't matter who was behind center this has consistently been the WORST 2nd half football team in the league since the start of last year and to me that falls squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff.

*The* problem? No, but he never was that. But I wonder if Marc had been out there today with Green's attitude, whether the game wouldn't have finished differently for us. Ultimately, I think he's contributed to the problems and we in part saw that the changes worked today (kinda).

Still time to run Linehan out of town on a rail.

Bulger could have handed the ball to Avery just as well ...

Re: So, was Bulger the problem?

Alright Bulger is not the problem & Green is not the answer, but what I did see today was a team that in the 1st half that played hard & a QB that showed what could be accomplished in this offense when he is not scared for his life. My only knocks on Bulger is right now he is gun shy, afraid of being hit. What I'm hoping from this benching is that Bulger comes out of it fighting for his job & sees that you can perform under this offense, he just needs to make quicker reads & get rid of the ball.
So lets look at this another way would have Bulger fared any better ? In my opinion, no.
This benching may just be a blessing in disguise. Bulger being a lil gun shy right now gets to sit down & evaluate how another QB runs this offense during game time. He will see that there is time for him throw, although it's limited time he can still make plays.
I'm I blaming Bulger for all that's wrong with the team, No but he sure can take a hard look at his play & improve dramatically.

Re: So, was Bulger the problem?

Not really. The offense did better as a unit but quarterback play was not much better than Bulger's. Much of Green's production came when the Rams were no longer in contention.
