More truth to that than some would imagine. An example: Some years ago I would regularly engage in a weekly NFL "pick em" contest with a group of friends and employees which required that one select the weekly winners with the tie-breaker being the closest guess of the total points scored by both teams at the end of the Monday night game. One night my football buddy (who had organized the thing in the first place) was collecting the weekly $5 fees, from all of us "experts" when his wife (Elly) who had never watched an NFL game, asked to play. At first my buddy said " No way - you know nothing about football, let alone individual teams - you'd just be throwing away your money." Upon hearing this I chimed in saying that if she wanted to play it would just sweeten the pot. My buddy after a moment's thought agreed and handed her the game schedule for the week. As she pondered the list, it soon became clear that her selections were based entirely on the teams names which most appealed to her. We giggled and guffawed and thanked her for her "donation." .. Cutting to the chase, she won going away which irked us no end. This signaled the end of her participation in the weekly pool, as Pablo (my football buddy) banned her from the pool permanently on the grounds that entrants had to be
real football fans. Not very fair now that I reflect upon it, but at the time I must confess I made no effort to intercede on her behalf ...
And yes Av - I do plan on entering, but right now I am struggling to get past round four .. Hmmm .. Now that I think of it maybe I should call Elly for a tip or two ...
