Some advice for Scott Linehan
Dear Coach,
As this is your first experience as an NFL Head Coach, allow me to give you some advice based upon my observations of the interaction between HCs and the media.
The media is not your friend. At best, the media is a necessary evil that comes with being a Head Coach.
No matter how nice, how honest or how ethical any member of the media may come accross, the truth is, they are entirely unconcerned with your interests. They want to sell papers, or get ratings, and they will do anything to accomplish those goals. Do not forget this.
If there is one thing you should have learned from your former boss, Nick Saban, its how to take what can only be described as a "f*** you" attitude with the press. Give the information you want to give. Answer the questions you want to answer. If you are asked a question you don't want to anwer, say "I'm not going to answer that," and move on. If you are asked a dumb question, tell the questioner, "Man, that's a dumb question" and move on.
Your obligations are to the players, coaching staff and Front Office of the team. The media will try to make you believe that you should be concerned with public image, and that they are somehow the conduit to the fans' hearts.
Not the case.
Do your job and win games, and you will be loved by the fans.
Even if the media thinks you are an SOB.
Good luck, Coach, and keep your "no comment" at the ready.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

In the immortal words of charles barkley (paraphrasing)
"Do it whatever way you want coach, but do it the Way you want, dont do it to please anyone else, because its your A--- on the line, no one elses. You have no job security anyway, so you might as well do it your way"

The Press? Sheeeesh. The press is the least of Linehan's worries. He has a coaching staff and team to build as his legacy as a head coach. Believe me, the least of his worries is the stinking press.
