Some musings on our new Headcoach...

As I sat and watched another embarrassing display of football "Rams - Style" today - and just around the time of Sam's 5th sack - I started musing on who will be the next Rams head coach.

Obviously many names were a-dancin' in my head; but, before I give you my list, I wanted to share what my Six-Point criteria is for the next HC of the Rams.

1.) Must have prior HC experience in the NFL. No more friggin' coordinators.

2.) Must be a relatively young guy. No old farts like Parcells or Shottenheimer or Ditka.

3.) Must have had prior success as a HC in the NFL. Did not necessarily have to win a Super Bowl but it would be nice.

4.) Must be willing to retain McDaniels as OC. I just don't want Sam learning another system and becoming the next Alex Smith (Heh..I say that and the #%$^Whiners are 3 - 1)

5.) Must be willing to work with the new GM that we are going to hire. Don't want any "total power" guys.

6.) No, absolutely NO, college coaches need apply.

7.) Must be willing to retain the equipment manager - whoever that may be - and spend his time on legitimate football concerns. (Well,ok, that's the seventh criterion, but Sam just got sacked again - 6th one if I haven't lost count - and I am all worked up now.)

Here is my list of candidates. Yes, many are the usual suspects but then again, maybe not all of them. Also, the order in which they appear is the approximate order I would prioritize each candidate at this time. So here are the "Magnificent Seven"!!

    1.) Jon Gruden
    2.) Tony Dungy
    3.) Bill Cowher
    4.) Jim Haslett
    5.) Jeff Fisher
    6.) Steve Mariucci
    7.) Mike Singletary

Again, this is my working list as of right now. This can and probably will change as other coaches come available (Andy Reid of Philadelphia?)

Oh yeah, I know that Mike Singletary did not enjoy much success in Whinerville, but there is just something about him that I like. Besides Bill Bellicheat failed in Cleveland big-time before getting the NE gig so why not Singletary?

At any rate fire away and do not hold back as it is a well-known scientific fact that if you don't release your ire it will turn into gas, and the person sitting behind you has asked that if you are gonna release anything let it be your anger. Please!!

Jeff Fisher would be great. Cower would be great also. These type of guys will require huge money. How about Jimmy Johnson? That would work for me also. I will point out that unless we get some players that can actually catch the ball (and some guys that can pass protect), it really is not going to matter if we hire vince lombardi.

I agree with all of your criteria and proposed replacements with the exception of Singletary. Problem is, each of these guys is comfortable in "retirement" or with cushy TV jobs. Why would they leave that? Gruden and Cowher in particular can write their own ticket and won't go somewhere to rebuild (I can't believe I'm using that word yet again).

It honestly hurts me to suggest Spags should go, but I've lost all faith. And as someone who personally knows Billy Devaney, I'm saddened and depressed that it appears many of his moves and endorsements have not panned out. Kroenke needs to put himself front and center, let fans know this is simply not what we're gonna' have to put up with for the next hundred freakin' years. Open up the checkbook and bring one of these guys in.

And although I don't particularly care for him, Brian Billlick won a Super Bowl. Add him to the list.

Unrelated to the fact I don't think Spags is going anywhere but...

How in the heck did Mike Singletary make your list with #3 as a requirement?

Yeah, I was scratchin my head over Singletary too.

Cowher should obviously be at the top of anyone's HC dream list. It's just that it's going to take breaking the Guinness Book of World Records for NFL coaching salaries to get him.

I'd be very surprised to see Spaguonolo go away right now too, but you have to acknowledge he's eventually going to run out of rope if he does turn this ship around soon.

Well, yeah, I see your point. It's like I explained at the end of my article: there is just something about him that makes me believe that he will one day be a successful HC in the NFL.

And as I also pointed out, who would have thought that Belicheat would turn out as he has after his debacle in Cleveland? I'm sure a lot of folks thought that Kraft was nuts for giving him a second chance. Besides from what I've been able to gather Sing's main issue was his putrid 80's style offense that had the imagination of a blank sheet of paper. That is why I would insist for a lot of these guys that Josh McDaniel be kept on as the OC.

2,3, and 5 are the only ones I can see who will be willing to possibly bring back Daniels as HC.
