Sources: Rams could choose Frazier or Spagnuolo by Friday
Sources: Rams could choose Frazier or Spagnuolo by Friday
By Jason Cole,
Yahoo! Sports
Two sources with knowledge of the St. Louis Rams’ coaching search said the team expects to announce by Friday that either Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier or New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will be named the next head coach.
One of the sources, both of which talked to someone directly involved in the Rams’ search, confirmed a report by Profootballtalk.com that the remaining St. Louis staff was informed it would not be retained by the team, meaning that interim coach Jim Haslett was no longer in consideration for the head coaching job.
The Associated Press reported Thursday evening that Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan were also candidates for the St. Louis vacancy. However, Ryan has been linked in various reports this week to the Jets’ opening and the two sources that spoke to Yahoo! Sports received strong indications that the candidates were narrowed to Frazier and Spagnuolo.
Frazier’s experience as both a player (he spent six years in the NFL and was a starting cornerback on the 1985 Bears Super Bowl team) and coach (he started the Trinity International University program from the ground up) has impressed administrators.
He also has spent the past 10 years as an NFL assistant coach, including the past two with the Vikings.
As for Spagnuolo, he is considered the mastermind of the blitz and pass rush schemes that allowed the Giants to thwart New England in the Super Bowl last year after the Patriots set an NFL record for scoring in the regular season. Spagnuolo has been an NFL assistant for the past 10 years, including the past two with the Giants. He has worked his way up the coaching ranks since graduating from Massachusetts in 1983.

Yahoo says coaching decision will be made Friday ONly 2 chocies
Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole reports that the Rams are expected to hire either Steve Spagnuolo or Leslie Frazier as their head coach on Friday.
All we know (almost) for sure is that the Rams will hire a defensive minded coach, which they haven't had since Rich Brooks in the mid-1990s. They'll then have to find an offensive coordinator. Hue Jackson, Mike Martz, Rob Chudzinski, Rick Dennison, and Jeremy Bates are the most prominent names out there. Jan. 16 - 9:47 am et

Re: Sources: Rams could choose Frazier or Spagnuolo by Friday
I heard Adam Schefter say on Nfl.com that we are expecting to make an announcement this weekend and if that is the case we would like to make it on Saturday. He also said that that would eliminate Rex Ryan because he is still in the championship game. I've been hearing that it's going to be on several different days who knows? By the way, if you want to see the video I'm talking about go to the NFL website and it is one of the new headlines with a video.

Re: Sources: Rams could choose Frazier or Spagnuolo by Friday
All signs point to Frazier or Spagnuolo for St. Louis Rams
By Jim Thomas
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
There’s no doubt that Minnesota’s Leslie Frazier and the New York Giants Steve Spagnuolo were the stars of the Rams’ finalist interviews this week in Los Angeles, multiple sources _ including team sources _ have told the Post-Dispatch.
As of Friday morning, it appeared that Frazier, the Vikings assistant head coach-defensive coordinator, is choice No. 1.
But Spagnuolo, the Giants’ defensive coordinator is a strong 1A, interviewed very well, and the team would be enthusiastic about hiring him as well.
So the only thing that would prevent the Rams from reaching a decision in the next 24 hours would be if the team decided to wait on Rex Ryan, the Baltimore assistant head coach-defensive coordinator. Ryan’s Ravens are still in the playoffs, and he can’t be hired until Baltimore is eliminated.
Ryan’s preliminary interview went well last Sunday in Baltimore. But if the Rams decided to wait on Ryan and the Ravens lost the AFC championship game to Pittsburgh, he would still have to meet Rams ownership before a decision was made.
And with team ownership and management so high on Frazier and Spagnuolo, there’s probably no reason to wait on Ryan.
No Garrett?? Is anyone disappointed ??

Re: Sources: Rams could choose Frazier or Spagnuolo by Friday
My cousins friend sister brother in law who has a dish on his roof said he heard from a sportscaster from Boise who heard a rumor from Little Rock that the Rams are maybe going to make an announcement either Friday or Monday but it could be later because the sportscaster in Little Rock has a nephew in St. Louis who read an article that said it might happen.

If the remaining staff will not be retained, does that mean that Henry Ellard is gone? Hope not.
