Spagnuolo vs. Linehan: Who was worse for the Rams?

    And now...

    The inevitable poll.

Who was a worse head coach for the Rams, Scott Linehan or Steve Spagnuolo?

Linehan went 11-25 (.306) in 2 1/4 seasons as the Rams' HC.
Spagnuolo is currently 10-34 (.227) in 2 3/4 seasons as the Rams' HC.

    Who was worse?

    My view:

As bad as Spagnuolo's record is (and, yes... I think he's worn out his welcome), I do think he had less to work with at the start of his regime than Linehan did. I also think that the drafts under Spagnuolo have been better than the ones under Linehan.

So, while it is certainly worth debating, I say Linehan is still the winner of the Rich Brooks Award for Inept Head Coaching.

Spags came in and had to deal with the mess Linehan made of our team so I'll give him a slight edge over Linehan.

Spags had to deal with more injuries then Scott Linehan. Both are good coordinators neither are HC's.

For me it's flip a coin and choose your poison, both are pathetic head coaches

I don't even think it's close. The next coach coming in will actually have talent to work with. Linehan DESTROYED the roster, and the drafts were terrible. They had to totally scrap the roster when he was canned. That won't be the case when Spags leaves. Yes, he's a bad head coach, but he's not an idiot like Linehan.

I think there was a thread the other day about who you'd resign after firing the whole team, and there were a good 15-20 people who you'd like to keep. Can't say that about Linehan's roster when he left..

Ok, so Spags has a deeper pool of talent yet still can't seem to be competitive. Linehan had a joke of a roster, which he did help create, but has won more game with less talent. Both are losers as head coaches.

Have you watched this season? Half of Spags keepers are on IR..im positive we'd be more competetive if even relatively healthy.

Re: Spagnuolo vs. Linehan: Who was worse for the Rams?

Linehan, when Spags first came to St. Louis, he had to rebuild this team from scratch. Linehan had some GSOT leftovers and destroyed the team. Steven Jackson scrutinized Linehan during the early 2008 fiasco while the players still have their respect for Spags.

Re: Spagnuolo vs. Linehan: Who was worse for the Rams?

I think that everything possible that can go bad with a football team is happening while Spags is head coach. Linehan on the other hand pretty much made the team fall apart with his horrible drafting, his obsession with tight ends and his poor utilization of players (Carriker comes to mind). I don't think Spags is a bad head coach. I think he is just being overwhelmed with how everything is unfolding for this team.

Re: Spagnuolo vs. Linehan: Who was worse for the Rams?

Our drafts were terrible before Linehan as well as during his tenure so I'm not sure we can hang that entirely on him.

Not much to choose between them for my money, equally awful, but I went for Spags because its more immediate failure that sticks in my mind.

I don't see how this answer can be anything but Scott Linehan.

You pretty much proved yourself wrong here.

Your giving Linehan leeway because of terrible drafts before him while pointing out he too had bad drafts?

So...Spags has also come in with bad drafts before him coming immediately after Linehan, right? Spags had much better drafts as well.

You know the really sad part about all this...where debating the worst head coach, which means this team has sucked for way to many years. This just blows my mind & I really don't care which one sucks more than the other, I'm just praying to god that major changes are coming in the offseason & we finally get an owner, front office & head coach that can win games & bring this once proud franchise back.

Re: Spagnuolo vs. Linehan: Who was worse for the Rams?

Scott was def worse, both are bad head coaches but Scott destroyed the team and we had to blow it up after he left.Like has been said on here Spags did bring in alot of talent and who ever comes after he leaves will have a much more appealing team to work with than spags did when he came to St louis.Honestly at this point its irrelevant, hopefully Stan sees that spags isnt the right man for the job and he is gone and we bring in some1 who can do it.Now if it were up to me id ask spags to return as DC,Ken might be the DC but lets face it its spags def and he has made it what it is not Ken.I know this wont happen but i wish it could, although spags would prlly like to try his luck at another HC job or hes smart enough to realize we dont want him so he is going to leave and never look bak lol.
