Spags to work playrers HARD !!

    By Bill Coats
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    07/21/2009

When new Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo dismissed his players about a month ago at the conclusion of the club's offseason program, he warned them to be prepared for a rigorous training camp.

    He wasn't kidding.

Bucking the trend around the league, Spagnuolo will drill his troops twice on most days during the 3ス-week camp to be held at Rams Park in Earth City. Many NFL teams have cut down on the number of two-a-days, but not Spagnuolo. Camp will open July 30 with two workouts that will be limited to quarterbacks, rookies and selected veterans. The first full-squad practice is scheduled for July 31.

A total of 32 practices, plus a scrimmage Aug. 7 at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, will be open to the public. Admission and parking for the sessions at Rams Park are free.

This should make it easier for Spags to designate a starting lineup .. After a barrage of two-a-days, our final roster will be filled out with the last men standing. Can't be afraid of injuries though .. right??

Well, I guess we'll find out who is there to play ball, and who is there to get a check.

Exactly. Any player who isn't on board with working hard to turn things around should probably file an application with the Lions on their way out the door. There's definitely a new sheriff in town.

Spag's and Devany have cleared out alot of the older players and made this team alot younger. If I remember correctly, Vermeil had some player issues regarding his tough camps, specifically with some older veterans. I wouldn't expect any of those issues now.

The bottom line is, a 5 and 27 over the last 32 games team has a load of work to do. A very large portion of that work will be done in the furnace of summertime workouts and practices. That is the price or failure. And I think it's something that Spag's will be effectively driving that home. Those that survive this crucible will be better for it, as will the Rams in the long run. Those four pillars will be pretty important in the next month.

In return, us fans and spectators will heap our praise and affection upon those that emerge and perform. Pretty simple really.

    Bring it on!

I like this. We fizzled in the 4th last year. I have a feeling that is why Spags is calling this. Good for him.
