St. Louis Rams “mystery” candidate: Jason Garrett; finalists set
St. Louis Rams “mystery” candidate: Jason Garrett; finalists set

Jason Garrett, the assistant head coach-offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, is the so-called “mystery” candidate in the Rams’ head-coaching search, league sources told the Post-Dispatch on Monday. Barring an unexpected complication, Garrett will interview Wednesday in Los Angeles as one of the Ram’s finalist interviews.
According to league sources, the Rams have settled in on five finalists: current Rams coach Jim Haslett already has taken part in his finalist interview last week in L.A.; Minnesota assistant head coach-defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is scheduled to interview there Tuesday; and it has now been confirmed that Steve Spagnuolo of the New York Giants will interview in Los Angeles on Thursday. (The Giants have granted St. Louis permission to speak to Spagnulo.)
The fifth finalist is Baltimore assistant head coach-defensive coordinator Rex Ryan. The only reason why Ryan was interviewed in Baltimore Sunday instead of in Los Angeles is because the Ravens are still alive in the NFL playoffs. Whether the Rams can afford to wait on Ryan, particularly if the Ravens win Sunday, remains to be seen.

So no Jim Schwartz I take it

I hope we do wait. I'd hate to jump the gun for someone who may not have as much success. If we believe Ryan is the right person, lets wait it out. The combine isn't until later.
Sure, we need to evaluate players at the combine. But listening to Devaney's interview with Berney, he already knows what this team needs. Even if we get a new coach, chances are, we are getting one of those players on Devaney's list of players.

Well, I'd say aside from Jim Haslett, the Rams have a pretty exciting list of finalists there.
Seems odd that they have 5 finalists. Almost everybody made the finals and I thought Devaney was going to sort through all that and bring 2, maybe 3 of the top finalists to LA to get interviewed by Shaw and ownership.
In any case, I like 4 of those finalists. Hope they pick one of them.

The speculation is that Schwartz is the guy who felt like the search was rigged to favor Haslett. The Rams seemed to have interest in him until that report surfaced.
Who know though? Perhaps Devaney wasn't as happy with his interview with the Falcons as some have said he was initially.

Well here's my unpopular rankings of the final 5.
1. HASLETT
2. Spags
3. Frazier
4. Ryan
5. Garrett

I put up a poll to see who the Clan likes among the 5 finalists.
I like the list... Haslett aside.
Re: St. Louis Rams “mystery” candidate: Jason Garrett; finalists set
can somebody do a "march madness" bracket so we can see how the coaches advance through the process? that would be awesome! :)
I thought there could only be 2 finalists though? hmmmmmm.........
Re: St. Louis Rams “mystery” candidate: Jason Garrett; finalists set
Jason Garret hmmm havent we seen enough of ginger Head Coaches already?:D
Re: St. Louis Rams “mystery” candidate: Jason Garrett; finalists set
It was reported today that Rex Ryan is looking like the favorite to take the Jets job so I think it's looking like we're down to four.

Garrett is from an excellent football coaching family. Unfortunately his brother was scapegoated (pardon the phrase) by Linehan after last season, which included great personal tragedy. ... I feel Spagnolo is the best guy there is but I am torn because I want Martz back to run the offense and I hear that only happens with Haslett.
