St. Louis rams select state-of-the-art system from astroturf® for practice field

First NFL team to install an advanced synthetic turf system from AstroTurf®
AstroTurf brings its latest innovation directly to the National Football League.

The announcement came today that the St. Louis Rams have selected AstroTurf® for a new synthetic practice field at Rams Park. The joint construction effort between GSV, AstroTurf and Munie Greencare Professionals will begin immediately and the field will be ready in time for the start of training camp in late July.

"After looking at all the different synthetic turf providers available, we felt AstroTurf was the best choice for us," said Kevin Demoff, St. Louis Rams Executive VP of Football Operations/Chief Operating Officer. "AstroTurf’s commitment to player performance and safety was a major factor in our decision. We can’t wait to get going on our new field."

The latest infilled systems from AstroTurf were designed and refined to meet the rigorous demands and performance characteristics required by the NFL. "This is a huge honor to have our state-of-the-art AstroTurf system validated by the Rams and the National Football League," said GSV Chairman Michael Dennis. "To have the greatest athletes in the world train on our system is a testament to years of testing, research and development that have gone into restoring AstroTurf as a leader in the industry. We are grateful to have been selected and proud to debut this fabulous technology with the Rams and the NFL."

The St. Louis Rams enter the 2009 season with a renewed sense of optimism under the leadership of new head coach Steve Spagnuolo, the former New York Giants Defensive Coordinator. "The Rams new AstroTurf practice field will be one of the finest in the NFL," said Bryan Peeples, President of AstroTurf. "Everyone at GSV and AstroTurf are honored to have been selected and look forward to being a part of the St. Louis Rams for many years to come."

    AstroTurf innovations include:
AstroTurf's Root Zone® technology, which enhances field drainage while reducing compaction and fiber degradation.

All-rubber infill systems composed of highly durable cryogenic rubber, to mimic the best natural playing systems.

Monofilament extrusion, a process invented by AstroTurf that creates realistic single blades of synthetic grass by forcing polymers through individual spinnerettes.

Use of nylon yarns. The nylon yarns in AstroTurf Root Zone constitute the strongest sports fiber in the industry, resulting in a more durable product.

BioCel™ technology, an environmentally-friendly unitary polyurethane backing system that reduces dependence on foreign oils and landfill waste while extending product durability and improving indoor and outdoor air quality.

If it just cuts down on injuries, it will be an improvement over the last system

Every time I hear the word AstroTurf I think of the concrete the Rams used to play on. At first I think of the injuries it caused over the years, but then I remember how fast the Rams flew around on it and the success we had while playing on it. It's good to hear we are playing on AstroTurf again!

    (Man, off season news sucks)

Astro turf...I'm with you C-mob I use to hate watching guys literally have their careers shortened on every snap, I pray that this new turf is 1,000 times better than that the previous version.

I wonder if this NEW astroturf is minus the little pieces of rubber that fly everywhere ?

I've played quite a few games of flag football in turf and the pieces of rubber end up EVERYWHERE while playing, and after the game. The latest turf installed in this arena in 2006.

The stuff is suppose to mimic grass and does in every way except the blades of grass are sharp.

Guys, Astroturf is the name of the company that makes artificial grass systems. Not the system itself. They make several products, but unfortunately the word has become "Coked". Its connotation harkens to memories of the Houston baseball team in the 70's. But they actually have state-of-the-art products that won't be the "green concrete" of old.

Go to their website and see where it is in use. Bills have it for game days along with some major college programs.

Maine, if you read the description, you'd see that there is a line that is "All rubber infill system" which is exactly those little rubber pellets that yes, get everywhere. However, I'd much rather have those pellets than Jax in a cast.
