St. Louis Rams to use 2 or 3 running backs, Fisher says

Now that we know David Wilson and Andre Brown are splitting carries with the New York Giants, one of the biggest backfield mysteries belongs to the St. Louis Rams following Steven Jackson's defection to Atlanta.
We expect "Making The Leap" candidate Isaiah Pead to be given every opportunity to win the lead-back job, but Daryl Richardson was impressive in his own right as a rookie.
Throw in fifth-round draft pick Zac Stacy -- a trendy fantasy sleeper -- and there are more questions than answers regarding the backfield roles.
Coach Jeff Fisher provided little insight this week, telling NFL.com's Ian Rapoport that the situation could be "playing two or three backs all the time. Which is good."
Slightly undersized, Pead and Richardson operate best in space while Stacy packs more punch as a decisive inside runner. The tea leaves suggest a "hot hand" situation between the former while the latter handles short-yardage duties.
Much like the Rams' wide receiver quagmire, the backfield promises to be vexing for fantasy leaguers throughout the 2013 season.

They say the RB position is going the way of the dinosaurs in the NFL. However, I don't see why that ought to be the case. Its another option for various plays and protection schemes. Remembering, back to 1999 the RB, M. Faulk, was a back-breaker for many teams the Rams faced. Having Prohle, Bruce, Holt, Faulk, Akhiem on the field was like having 5 potential receivers requiring the opposing defenses to account for them--making matters worst for opposing defenses was having 4 WR running loose to have Marshall step up into a void spot in the defense and catch a 3-to-5 yard pass and have him gash it into a 10 to 15 yard gain. Personally, I opt for multi-threat, multi-capable RBs over "purest" RBs. The Rams have Cook, and Austin which should in theory open a dimension for expanded play for the RB position
