Re: St. Louis Surprise: Rams' Receivers Are Better Than You Think
I like the youth in our WR corps and I'm genuinely excited to see how they do.
I'm not sure that at this point we really need to be looking elsewhere for veteran help as there's no-one out there currently who would represent a dramatic upgrade. It would also impede player development.
Better o-line play, a different emphasis on offense and a resurgent McMichael along with an emergent Fells could see these young guys surprise.
Nice article.

Re: St. Louis Surprise: Rams' Receivers Are Better Than You Think
Couple key questions for me:
1. What kind of defense in the secondary should we expect teams to start playing the Rams with? A zone? Who would they double? Who merits man? Does anyone really know what and who to expect to be a factor in the passing game at WR, at this point? We know SJ and McMicheal, but until things get developed, and a few games are in the books, why do anything different than stack the line against SJ?---I think someone has to emerge for anything different to happen here, and I think any of Avery, Robinson, Buton or Foster <in that order> has as good a chance as anyone of emerging.
2. What about TE Fells? I can see him emerging in the new offensive system. McMicheal gets injured alot lately it seems and this guy can catch and has great size.Semper Fi

Re: St. Louis Surprise: Rams' Receivers Are Better Than You Think
BELIEVE YOU ME, we are going to miss Torry Holt next year.
It seems like a good portion of you fans are getting a little carried away with your expectations. Dont kid yourselves, this years going to be trying to say the least.
Ive seen some fans talking about a top 10 DEFENSE. WAKE THE HELL UP, MUP.
OF THE RECIEVERS vying for jobs, im not quite sure who will produce.
Hopefully the Tight Ends can help more on 3rd downs. 3rd and 7 and longer will make interesting viewing pre-season and the seasons start.
LAURENT ROBINSON = HOPEFULLY.Last edited by GROUND DOG 39; -05-14-2009 at 01:14 PM.

Re: St. Louis Surprise: Rams' Receivers Are Better Than You Think
in a WCO id rather have someone with more speed than Holt..sure his hands are probably better than what we have at this point but none of us knows that for sure..just a presumption based on the fact that over the last decade Torry`s hands have been among the best in the business but thats not including new players who are unproven...tho its worth taking on board that unproven ,is unproven to be bad aswell as unproven to be good.
theres plenty to be optimistic about...im not seeing anyone say we definately gonna do anything so have a bit of class hey Groundog and cut out the name calling!

Speed and size are not a factor anymore, it`s experience, no crafty vet reciever as of yet.

Re: St. Louis Surprise: Rams' Receivers Are Better Than You Think
JMO but when Jackson is in the game he's going to be facing 8 men in the box every down. When he exits the game the receivers are going to see 5 DBs and a mess of double teams. Unless our WRs can connect with Bulger and produce magic we haven't seen in several years, this offense is going to be in serious trouble. When Jackson is out of the game or injured, I don't see how this offense isn't going to come to a complete halt.
For those counting on McMichael, what exactly has he done the last 3+ years to instill this hope? His production has been on a slide ever since 2004. Miami cut him and LINEHAN picked him up. That should give us the hint that the slide in production isn't a fluke.
When tough times come to this offense and they are seeing adversity, there isn't an obvious leader or veteran in that WR corp. That's going to smack us in the face.
Sorry, JMO.
Oh and Jim Thomas was talking about Fells one day. He said the guy always produces in practice and falls apart come game day. I will say he did impress me last year with his running after the catch.Last edited by RebelYell; -05-14-2009 at 06:02 PM.

Re: St. Louis Surprise: Rams' Receivers Are Better Than You Think
I do not know why people always say philly has not WR. Westbrook is one of the best WR's in the league :P Just look at how many receptions he has

I hope he is right about the Ram's WR's being better than people think, because they are what I am most uncertain about entering the next season.

I hope that I am not the only one whose mind transposes those two names every time I see it...
