Steven Jackson NOT one of the Top 25 Power Running Backs Of All Time
At least not according to SI.
Here's the criteria that was used to make the list:
And here's their list:For the sake of the top 25 list to follow, "power back" refers to a player who inflicted as much or more punishment on defenders as he received. This is not a ranking of the greatest all-time backs, though many of the names you'd include there are in the mix here as well.
This is an appreciation of those who opted not to run out of bounds, lest they give up an extra yard or two.
25. William Andrews
24. Eric Dickerson
23. Bo Jackson
22. Adrian Peterson
21. Marshawn Lynch
20. Craig "Ironhead" Heyward
19. Herschel Walker/Tony Dorsett
18. Jamal Lewis
17. Marcus Allen
16. Mike Pruitt
15. Eddie George
14. Mike Alstott
13. Jim Nance
12. Bill Brown
11. Christian Okoye
10. Jerome Bettis
9. Franco Harris
8. Jim Taylor
7. Walter Payton
6. John Riggins
5. Marion Motley
4. Bronko Nagurski
3. Larry Csonka
2. Earl Campbell
1. Jim Brown
So after seeing that list, do you think Steven Jackson deserves to be on it?
If so, why? Who does he knock off the list, and where would you place him?
If not, why not? What is he lacking that doesn't get him there? Where would you place him outside the list if extended to the top 100?

You know what? SJ may not be a "top 25 power back of all time" but I'll take SJ all day every day and twice on Sunday over Jerome Bettis. Put them in identical situations, and I'll guarantee you SJ out-produces him.

Re: Steven Jackson NOT one of the Top 25 Power Running Backs Of All Time
Exclusions from lists like this don't bother me. We all know what kind of back SJ39 is. Just because he isn't on Sportscenter every Sunday doesn't mean he isn't one of the greatest power backs of all time. If he was on the Rams during the GSOT I am sure he would be on this list, due to the fact he played on the Rams when he did I have to imagine that played into his exclusion. That really shouldn't matter, but the people who makes these kinds of lists go off of name recognition over the right choice. Thats not to say that most of these guys don't deserve to be on there.

Okay, at least No. 25!!! Replace William Andrews.
Jax is a physical 6-2 240 lbs type of RB and has punished many a tackler that got in his way. I like what 'ThankYouMam' said however...
"we know better than the 'list'".
Good challenge nevertheless.Last edited by RealRam; -03-05-2013 at 09:05 PM. Reason: Rams Predator 39

Ditto with the question marks. I'd replace Allen with Paul 'Tank' Younger!

He played almost 10 years with the Rams in the late 40s / early 50s -- including the Champions team (that BTW boasted the famous 'Bull Elephant Backfield') -- and crushed numerous opponents in the process.

What was the name and team of the player whose arm got broken trying to tackle Steven Jackson ?
Let's ask him.

Re: Steven Jackson NOT one of the Top 25 Power Running Backs Of All Time
Why Marshawn Lynch is above Adrian Peterson ? They enter the league the same year and Peterson has better stats in every categories... Mike Alstott better than Eddie George ? Marcus Allen and Dickerson are not really power back...
It looks like a bleacher report list, not really accurate.Si vous croyez en vous, que vous avez de la fierté, et que vous ne lâchez jamais, vous serez un gagnant.
Le prix de la victoire est chère, mais la récompense en vaut la peine.

In a related story, SI was #27 on Steven Jackson's list of all-time best sports publications.
Welcome to the St. Louis Rams!

Sounds like a legitimate form of measurement to me...For the sake of the top 25 list to follow, "power back" refers to a player who inflicted as much or more punishment on defenders as he received.
