Looks like the Rams did not think Unga was worth a 7th round pick. The Bears get the guy for next years 7th. That was a steal and for the Rams having so much unknown talent backing up Jackson Unga would have been a great addition at a very low draft pick.

Hope the FO know more than us fans and did not make the move for a reason?

The Rams did not have a 7th rounder this year because of the trade to, ironically enough, the Bears for Kevin Payne.

Maybe the Bears felt they could expend a 7th round pick seeing that they had an extra one from the Rams.

I still don't see why we wouldn't have used a 6th round pick on a player like him.

Oh well guess we just have to trust Billy on this one.

Apparently Unga was too similar to Chris Ogbonnaya to be worth the pick since Ogbonnaya has spent a year in the offense already and Unga would have missed a large portion of the offseason.

The Bear's only get our 7th if we keep Payne on the roster. With OJ back you think he stay's? I'm not sure of his talent level or how much Spags likes him.

Thanks for the insight. I do believe that K. Payne will, in fact, make this man's football team for the following reasons:

1.) Atogwe's deal while initially reported as a five year deal is at the end of the day more like a one year contract. This fact became obvious after the details of the contract surfaced.

2.) With Craig Dahl's history of injuries a healthy back up at the safety position is crucial.

3.) Payne has been a starter in the past and he can play both safety positions, so I definitely think he'll be around come September.

4.) The only other safety of note currently on the roster is David Roach and last I heard he only comes out when its dark and if the Terminix man is nowhere around.
