    Surface Tension?

Could this new playing surface be causing all these injuries or is it just a cruel coincidence? You know we had problems last year as well. It seems a fair share of opponents also are littered off the field. This was addressed when we had the old surface which was not much more than green asphalt, but the problem then was upon landing; this seems to be a problem of unforgiving traction on knees and ankles. Hamstrings and back spasims however may be a conditioning thing ala coaching, but a case could be made for the traction thing as well.

When a coincidence raises its ugly head then grabs a top hat and cane it's more than just a coincidence.

It's a coincidence that sings show tunes.

    I couldn't help it. Sorry.

With all the gravitas of Jackie Treehorn.

    Re: Surface Tension?

Frankly, I believe it's because today's coaches baby these players. They have backed off on contact drills in training camp, and most of your "skill" players don't play hardly at all during preseason. Everyone is so afraid that someone will get hurt during the preseason that they forget the benefit of getting the players game ready.

soem of it might be preseason , or lack of seasoning . but as an old timer at 42 years of age . ...... FOOTBALL , LET ME SAY AGAIN... FOOTBALL IS AND SHOULD HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AN OUTSIDE SPORT , PLAYED IN THE STATES ELEMENTS . ( miami - hot , chicago - wet and windy - green bay - yuk ...you get the meaning ) THIS GAME SHOULD BE PLAYED OUTSIDE , ON GRASS . ... AND DON'T START WASTING EVERYONES TIME WITH THE WHOLE ARTICIAL TERF COMPARED TO GRASS CRAP . ... I'M TALKING OUTSIDE WHERE THE ELEMENTS ARE THE 12th MAN . ala : circa 1970 - minnesota - pittsburg - l.a. colliseum . etc. etc .

    Re: Surface Tension?

The "field turf" that is in general use these days is supposed to actually cause less injuries than even regular grass. Of course, it's very probable that Georgia's too cheap to get the real stuff, so maybe we have generic, no name brand crap that does cause more injuries?

If it weren't for artificial turf, would GSOT have been a succesful as it was?

Agreed, REAL football is a game of the elements, but domed stadiums bring more revenues....

    Re: Surface Tension?

I would have to agree that Linehan's decision not to play the starters at all in the preseason and then throw them directly into real game action in week one is a huge reason why we've had some many injuries the last two years. Not to mention why we've started out sooooo slowly on offense the past two seasons- keep it up Scott- it's working!!!
