Thread: Tackle Concerns

    Re: Tackle Concerns

Yeah, I agree tackle is a huge problem for our offense. We first need to fix our defensive tackles, then upgrade at the defensive end position, get some better safeties, a new linebacker, maybe an upgrade at cornerback, then a younger receiver to take over from Bruce, a third string running back, a couple of quality guards, a center, another backup quarterback - but THEN, THEN we need to fix the real problem that has been holding us back - our tackles! :x

If players can not learn new techniques to improve play then why have so many coaches?????

Guys, this is a all a joke.

There is no such thing as "scrimmage line angle quotient" (SLAQ). I made it all up. The stats are entirely fake, and the truth is, I think our OTs are among the teams strong points.

The point of this (other than to get a good laugh, which I and others did) was to show that anyone can come up with some vague "observation" about some aspect of a player's ability or performance and make it sound like a valid criticism. Others will then debate it or even agree with it. Nonetheless, its all BS. We are fans, not coaches. We don't know as much as we'd like to think we do.

By the way, if you look carefully at my posts in this thread, you'll find some almost direct quotes from another thread. I just changed "safety" to "OT," and made some other minor changes.

Anyway, this was a lot of fun!
And you thought Mike Martz was "mad"!

INteresting. All criticisms of present starters are vague and/or can be dismissed.

How does that work with praise?

I don't see where he said that this is true about "all criticisms." Rather, he seems to be talking about "some criticisms."

Certainly, some criticisms are unquestionably valid (i.e. "He fumbled six times in one game. That is bad."), as are some words of praise (i.e. "He scored six times in one game. That is good.").

Lighten up guys! When you make book-length posts about your own subjective observations you should expect a little flack. Nobody gets a free pass around here. No need to get mad about it (or, as one person has already done, make veiled threats).

In the future, I'll try to cut you some SLAQ, Zack!

    Re: Tackle Concerns

I'm going to assume that Archer's comment was a joke, not a threat. Otherwise, he'd be out of here so fast he'd leave skid marks.

Skid marks??? That depends on his Scrimmage Line Angle Quotient.

    Re: Tackle Concerns

I knew it and called it with my first post in this thread, too many of the first initial comments sounded like the "safety concerns" comments. You are right though some jumped right in the boat. I was actually laughing about some of the posts because I'm saying to myself this evilx guy is full of crap. Funny thread though, for those of us slaqers who had the time to read it.

    ?

    LOL.

Funny you assumed someone was mad.

I assume that was wishful thinking. Shrug. Smilie.

Actually, on many boards, what you describe is rare. Meaning, giving people grief for being interested in the Rams. Partly because there are people who can tell the difference between a good argument and a "subjective opinion." That's also at least in part cause they know how to make an argument in response.

It's actually really impressive how many people out there really know a lot about football and the Rams and are passionate and articulate and expressive about it. The net is a great thing.
