TE Daniel Fells is one of the top sleepers of 09
Excited about this kid. He showed a lot of promise and potential last year and it seems like hes gonna have a big 2009.
Its been reported that he has really shined in the last two mini-camps and has excelled as a slot receiver and mobile Tight End.
Bulger said that he had a "rediculously great" mini-camp and that he was playing like "lights out." And lots of media outlets that watched both camps have reported that he has gotten a whole lot of red zone action and that hes gonna be one of the number one deep threats this year.
Hes a big guy and could be the big receiving target we need this year because all our receivers are definitely on the small side.
Shurmur (the offensive coordinator) said "Fells is the guy for us that's really gonna make mis-matches with the defenses we go up against this year."
He's a definite sleeper and I think he might get more action as a receiving tight end than McMichael. I'm callin it. We'll see!

Re: TE Daniel Fells is one of the top sleepers of 09
I like the sound of that!! SO now we've got a pure blocking tight end in Billy Bajema, good veteran leadership in Randy McMichael, and a up and coming "Owen Daniels" in Daniel Fells. But I really like the sound of it because I heard about this kid near the end of last season and it was said then that he looked promising so now this season we can see what he brings to the team. I'm really excited.

Agreed!!! We are definitely good at that position.

Re: TE Daniel Fells is one of the top sleepers of 09
Right now he is buried in the depth charts that may look like this in preseason:
TE:
McMicheal
Bajema (whoever that blocking TE we got; lol forgot his name)
Klop
Fells
I dont think he is a top sleeper yet.
Look for him to bloom in 2010 or 2011. But he wont be a "Top" sleeper this year.
But i like the way you think. Owen Daniels is the most underrated player in the NFL not just the TE position MOST UNDERRATED PLAYER.

Re: TE Daniel Fells is one of the top sleepers of 09
Wasn't there a ton of hype about Fells last year? He made a few plays, but to me he kinda seems like a two hand touch star- great in shorts and a tee, but struggles when the pads are on. But hey don't get me wrong, I would love if he could step it up and become a star for us. Perhaps with some competent coaches and a revamped o line, Fells will finally be able to shine.

And if he has been performing as well as it is reported, i could see him easily jumping over klop, it wouldn't be the first time spags cast aside one of linny's mistakes.

With the surprising moves that have been going on there's no guarantee that Fells will even make the roster.

Re: TE Daniel Fells is one of the top sleepers of 09
I hear what you're sayin, but the media actually scrutinized the fact that he only got thrown the ball like once or twice a game. He made some great catches and don't forget that it was his first playing in regular season games. I think that the fact that they used him at fullback means hes tough too and can block.
I know there are no guarantees and like you, I just hope he is the real deal. We need that tall, athletic go to guy on 3rd downs and Red zone plays.
Based on continuing interviews the coaches and players are still raving about his talent on the field and apparently they are giving him most of the slot receiver reps. So we'll see. I really hope he lives up to the hype.

Re: TE Daniel Fells is one of the top sleepers of 09
Jim Thomas of the Post had a point about Fells at the last mini-camp. He said Fells always looks like an all-star at practice but when game time comes he disappears. Don't know if that's true but he does run hard after the catch and I like that.

I always liked him. I was probably one of the more excited members of the board when we signed him. He's going to be a good player.
A pair of him and McMichael? Come on, can't go wrong.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Devaney, if you care about this team... fire the offensive coordinator!!!!

Agreed. And hes getting a good amount of pictures taken of him when the Post goes to OTAs, which means that hes gotta be catchin some eyes.
If he's as good as the coaches are saying, he'll be a big part of our 3rd down and red zone offense.
