Team expected to sign Gorin

Rams | Published Tue Sep 11 2:09:00 p.m. ET 2007

(KFFL) Adam Caplan, for Scout.com, reports the St. Louis Rams are expected to sign unrestricted free-agent OT Brandon Gorin (Cardinals), who worked out for the team Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Re: Team expected to sign Gorin

I don't know about you guys, but I have mixed emotions about this one... his yearly starts don't tell a whole lot, except that he hasn't started one game since '05. Has anyone been able to scrape up anything on sacks allowed, etc?

Info from the same link above:

Quote:
Gorin, a former starter with the Patriots, was released by the Cardinals in the preseason. He worked out with the Rams on Tuesday as they attempt to find healthy bodies along the offensive line, following the season-ending injury suffered by Orlando Pace.

Re: Team expected to sign Gorin

He started 10 games in 2004 for the Patriots (played in 14 total) and was penalized three times while allowing 4.5 sacks. The following year he started 8 games (played in 11), was penalized five times, and allowed only two sacks. He didn't see any time on the field for Arizona. Out of the list of free agent tackles out there, he's probably close to the top. We all need to understand that we're not going to be finding great players available right now. Gorin is probably one of the better options at this point in terms of free agents.

Agreed, Nick. I think we all realize that right now we only have the "Used Car Lot" to look into and even there, many of the vehicles are not exactly special; they may be a bit under the 'suspicious' category. Someone made the same observation here a day or two ago, about the lack of premium OTs at this point.

How about ex-Ram Zach Wiegert? OT 6-5, 310. 13th season, from Nebraska. He played for us during the deep dismal years in STL.

All I remember / know of him is that he's been a starter for most of his career as shown below:

Year / Team -------- G / GS
1995 St. Louis Rams 5 - 2
1996 St. Louis Rams 16 16
1997 St. Louis Rams 15 15
1998 St. Louis Rams 13 13
1999 Jacksnvile Jags 16 12
2000 Jacksnvile Jags 8 - 8
2001 Jacksnvile Jags 16 16
2002 Jacksovile Jags 7 - 7
2003 Houstn Texans 15 14
2004 Houstn Texans 13 13
2005 Houstn Texans 12 12
2006 Houstn Texans 9 - 9

TOTAL ------------ 145 - 137

Exactly. Besides, he's being added for depth, not as a starter.

I wouldn't be so sure. I don't think Goldberg has that RT job locked down by any means, and Gorin has starting experience on a Super Bowl team.

Well of course, depth. It would be rediculous to expect us to look for a 'starter' right now. You never know.

I placed Zach Wiegert's strong starting record (137 of 145 games) as that, a strong record. :-) Sometimes that may be used as a good indicator towards a player's potential, especially among veterans.

I'd be surprised to him start, but hey, whatever works.

Well I wouldn't expect him to start any time soon, but I don't see why he couldn't challenge for that right tackle job once he gets a feel for the offense.

If the guy is even average at best, that would be great.
