Rams cut Terrell; he's charged with assaulting wife
    By Jim Thomas
    ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
    10/23/2007

The troubles continue to mount for Rams offensive lineman Claude Terrell. Terrell, 25, was arrested early Tuesday morning by Webster, Texas, police and charged with assault-family violence, a Class A misdemeanor.

But Terrell no longer is the Rams’ problem. While Terrell was still being processed in the Harris County (Texas) Jail, the team cut Terrell, a fourth-round draft choice by the club in 2005 out of New Mexico.

"He was released for performance on the field, and just because of how he was playing," said Jay Zygmunt, the Rams’ president of football operations-general manager. "This has been contemplated for a while."

As for Terrell’s latest arrest, Zygmunt said, "That’s a league matter."

Zygmunt was reached in Philadelphia, where he was attending the NFL owners meetings. Because he had been in meetings all day, Zygmunt said he wasn’t aware of all the details of Terrell’s arrest.

According to the Webster Police Department, officers were dispatched to a Hampton Inn in the area at 1:43 a.m. Tuesday because of a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a female victim.

"It was obvious to the officer, that she had been assaulted," Webster police captain Thomas Claunch told the Post-Dispatch.

The victim, whose identity was not released, later said it was her husband — Terrell — who had assaulted her. Claunch said the victim initially refused treatment, but later received treatment at a local hospital for a broken nose.

Following team meetings Monday at Rams Park, players are off until Wednesday. Terrell is from LaMarque, Texas; Webster is a Houston suburb.

Terrell has been in and out of coach Scott Linehan's doghouse for most of the 2006 and '07 seasons. This season, he was fined for showing up late to a team meeting prior to the season opener against Carolina. He subsequently was placed on the team's pregame inactive list for that game.

Team sources confirmed Tuesday that Terrell also has been fined repeatedly for failing to make weight at the Rams’ weekly Friday weigh-ins.

Last week, Terrell "mouthed off" to Linehan at the end of practice, leading to a profanity-laced outburst by the normally even-keeled coach. Terrell said he later apologized to Linehan and the team.

Because of a rash of injuries on the offensive line, Terrell has started three games for the Rams at guard this season. Prior to his arrest, he was scheduled to start at left guard Sunday in Cleveland because of ankle injuries to center Brett Romberg forced more line re-shuffling.

With Terrell gone, the Rams now plan to start Milford Brown at left guard and Brandon Gorin at right tackle against the Browns. The team was working on a roster replacement for Terrell late Tuesday afternoon.

Terrell currently is serving a two-year probation from a 2006 arrest for assault-causing bodily injury to a family member.

Have you guys ever seen that SNL skit where Will Ferrell stabs a guy 78 times the stomach with a trident? That is what this season is like.

I would love to see a list of our starting and ending O-lines for each of the seven games we've played, and the projected starting line for Sunday's game.

And...how many times the line changed during each game. It has to be simply unbelievable.:x

My preferred analogy is "a season of Madden no *bleep*ing way games", but yours is apt as well.

wow he wasn't that good anyways we need a tough FA agent guard who can really hold his own against the pass rush. Faneca (maybe to pricey), Jake Scott (played with indy past three season barely giving up sacks), Ryan Lilja same with scot

Enough is enough. There is only ONE logical solution. SIGN THE BIG BISON. Hubison is in solid shape and he knows the playbook inside out. Suit him up on sunday and he will cause havoc on the Browns.

My God what an idiot. It will bring us further problems on our O-line probably, but good riddance. How many times has Terrell ****ed up in his short stint with our team? About once every other week or something? I actually thought he showed a lot of promise in his first season starting a lot of games and playing pretty well, but it's all been downhill from there. Not having surgery/lying about it to the coaches, not showing up for workouts, showing up overweight, mouthing off, overweight again, breaking your wife's nose...You brought this on yourself you big fat slob. I sure hope our other 'problem' players (like Wroten) work out better...

Sadly, its not likely the end of Terrel:\...some other team will suffer an injury-they drag him in-he promises to be a good boy..... Some of these players are like JASON in those Friday the 13th, just will not go away and stay gone!

    or maybe BRM?

He looks like he may be a mountain to move, and he can save the team some $$ by bringing his own helmet (although it looks a tad too small)!

Whatcha say, Randy? Ring them and tell them you'll be in town if they need a hand?

Re: Terrell cut - Per 1380

In retrospect, the Rams screwed up by not making a play for one of the decent interior o-linemen on the market this year. The put too much stock in a bunch of returning young guys instead of shucking out cap dollars (which they have) to a guy like Eric Steinbach. Oh well....

What's it going to be then? ...OL Menu for week 8:

    Special of the day.

    LT -- Alex Barron
    LG -- Milford Brown
    C -- Andy McCollum
    RG -- Richie Incognito
    RT -- Brandon Gorin?

And for dessert, what do we have for depth? :x

Re: Terrell cut - Per 1380

Not many interior offensive linemen being moved onto or off of rosters according to the NFL Transactions site... http://www.nfl.com/transactions

there HAS (HAVE ?) to be players with unrealized dreams who would love to have a chance to prove they have "The Right Stuff" even if they play over their heads for a game or two until we can get our proven(?) linemen back?

I would once have claimed that the NFL has a pretty good idea if players have enough potential to warrant a roster spot, but now I am not so sure. Ouch. Did I say that out loud?
