There are some concerns amongst the hype

Even with the win last night and Bulger playing great...one has to have a few concerns.

    1) Long has one tackle in 3 games. No pressure and been manhandled by tight ends.

    2) Where is Cliff Ryan??

    3) Tye Hill has not preformed.

    4) Lenard might be an odd guy out

    5) Talk about OJ's hammy not getting better

    6) Bennett...that is all have to say on that

    7) Barron still false starting

    8) How healthy is Pace??

    9) Lack of depth

    10) Special teams and have been not the special.

There are still a lot of concerns for me.

All of these things are concerns, no doubt, though of varying degrees. Here's how I see them:

I suspect that Long is still in the "thinking too much" phase. Once he becomes comfortable enough to play instinctively, I think we'll see a lot more production.

    2) Where is Cliff Ryan??
The run D has been pretty good in games 2 and 3, which is, at least, somewhat attributable to Ryan.

    3) Tye Hill has not preformed.
More so than that, it bothers me that the D has not picked off any passes in three games.

    4) Lenard might be an odd guy out
Nice story. Nice guy. Bad pick.

    5) Talk about OJ's hammy not getting better
He needs to be on the field.

    6) Bennett...that is all have to say on that
He will go down as one of the worst FA signings for the Rams this decade.

    7) Barron still false starting
Perhaps, but I'd hate to have to line up without him at this point.

    8) How healthy is Pace??
    Keep your fingers crossed.

    9) Lack of depth
Apart from interior O line and CB (before King was injured), you're absolutely right.

    10) Special teams and have been not the special.
That's putting it mildly. But, hey, at least Linehan was able to give his buddy a promotion from his previous job as a High School coach.

Which might be a good reason to let him play more in the preseason- find out what he's good at, then start him in certain situations when the regular season kicks off. Let Hall and Victor A handle more of the load and let him relax and just play.

I thought I saw him put up some numbers in the Titans game. Haven't heard much of Carriker's name either. The lack of passrush all around is worrying me a bit too.

He hasn't performed since limited time in his first year. Maybe Brown coming back will make him better? Hope so because Jonathan Wade certainly isn't the answer. He looks like the reincarnation of Travis Fisher...

Loved him at Rutgers, but I might be inclined to agree.

Yeah, he's a pretty slow starter to begin with.

While he definately hasn't earned his paychecks yet- I think there's a chance he still can. In terms of worst free agents in the last decade, I think Jamie Duncan has him edged out there.

Yes, and at home again too. What happens when he goes out on the road and has to deal with more crowd noise? Incognito has also jumped offsides several times too.

If Pace isn't healthy- this season might be a wash already.

I thought we took a step forward on that front last season- I hope we're not taking another step back. Hopefully- it's just due to guys that won't be on the team come September manning those positions right now.

That is why those posts regarding Boldin are unrealistic. There are still two weeks before our first game. Will we see a major signing for offensive line help or defensive help?

Re: There are some concerns amongst the hype

My general concern is that we have no idea how good the defense is. We got torched in week one, played week 2 against three starters, and played against a rookie qb and backup rb last night. Before anyone jumps on me, i am NOT criticizing the defense, just pointing out that when the schedule starts for real, we are going to see a lot better players opposite us and that gives me pause, especially with the injuries to brown and oj and our very weak strong safety spot.

Guys there arent going to be any "major signings" because as to Av's point earlier this week, there wont be any real impact players available. Best we can hope for is some depth.

Number 8 is my biggest concern by far .. Goldberg, who according to the coaching staff is "much improved", is nonetheless no Orlando Pace ..

Number 6 on your list concern me the most. He can be a drive killer. I hope the coach don't fill pressure to keep him at # 2 longer than they should because of his money.

Ty Hill has really dissappointed me. I really dont have him as a starting CB. Bartell is much better.

Re: There are some concerns amongst the hype

OK. Me being the optimistic guy, I'll answer these from THAT point of view:

    1) I think Long will be ok. I read where several people (coaches and what not) said he's not gonna be dominant at first, perhaps not even this year. Thats ok. James Hall is MUCH improved, I hear.

    2) I think Ryan has been fine. The D has looked REALLY good lately and rebounded wonderfully from that debacle in Nashville (that I drove 7 hours to see!)

3)Tye Hill hasn't stepped up yet but it's supposed to be a big year for him, so I'll wait to judge that.

    4) Agreed

    5) Maybe they just don't wanna take a chance w/ Atogwe. I say he'll be fine if he's healthy, regardless of preseason work. Keep him out.

6)Well, we can't be optimistic ALL the time, can we? BUST. In capital letters. Looker and Stanley are better. Better yet, I say move Keenan over there.

    7) Av nailed this one. Barron is still the best option .... by far.

    8) I don't buy that it's that big of a deal. The shoulder is structurally sound. Barring any other injuries, I think Pace returns to form. I hope he does, he may be the key to the whole thing.

    9) I agree.

    10) Agree here too. I just hope that if we have a weakness, this is it.

I still like Hill to be honest, I think he'll get his head in the game. Wade also needs some more time. Leonard is still an awful pick as much as I like him.

Bennett also needs more time as much as I hate saying that, it's true. Remember this is a new Offense for everyone, I'd much rather trade him for Boldin it'd be a dream come true but let's face reality: Given the cap, we're going to be forced to give him time and hope for the best.

Let me re-phrase. We haven't had much of a passrush by our front four. We have three sacks bythe DL in 3 games- 2 of them by Little.

They've only played about 6 quarters total, the 1st team D-Line. Equates to 32 sacks at seasons end if scaled to 4 quarters a game just by the D-Line alone ...

Tack on a dozen more potentially by linebackers and what is the problem?

We don't always need sacks to equate to a good rush. James Hall has been all over the QB this preseason. He doesn't have a sack, but he has been applying great pressure ...
