    Thoughts on Barksdale

Guys, thoughts please on Barksdale. Call me crazy, but i think he has improved steadily over the last several weeks and actually may have the makings of a functional right tackle. The real question for me is what is his true upside. He makes very little money, and is a terrific guy for depth if we take mathews in round one at tackle, but my question is whether he is potentially viable as a starter next year, which really comes down to whether people think that he will continue to improve.

I think we should let him start screw Saffold. Barksdale is a more rounded player.

Start Barksdale, and if Mathews is there during the draft, take him and have Barksdale be a solid backup.

This. Barksdale would be a great swing tackle if we landed Matthews.

Barksdale has far outplayed the early expectations of him. But IMO, he hasn't outplayed a healthy Saffold. Assuming Saffold walks (which I think's a pretty fair bet), then Barksdale is an option, but not enough to pass on Matthews or Lewan.

Barksdale is serviceable, but I don't think we pass on the opportunity for a tackle in the draft if one becomes available.

i guess the trouble with comparing him to a healthy Saffold is that there never is a healthy saffold, at least in the context of saffold at right tackle.

And that has to be a factor in this.

Not true! There's that moment where he emerges from the huddle and trots to the line of scrimmage.

Interior linemen are just as important, especially in the running game.

So true. They tried to do something about that with Watkins but missed there.

    Re: Thoughts on Barksdale

I like the points you guys make alot, sadly as I really liked Roger early on. But his foot work this season has been horrendous to put it mildly! So I actually like Barks more than Roger, moving forward love the idea of getting one of the top tackles in the draft and keeping Barks as our swing man. Add to that a good guard in the draft and it would really help solidify our line.

Hoping Barret Jones can be our future center, as he could be very special. Expect him to really work himself into a power guy in time he has so much skill imho. Hoping BJ can stay healthy and get his strength and conditioning to an elite level then we may really have something for a line in the future!

I agree totally with this POV. Barksdale should continue to play this season to determine his ceiling. I can't say for sure but will defer to someone who knows better, Barksdale strikes me as a mauler type tackle, which is essential for the run game. Beyond that if Matthews or Lewan are there at our pick, go for it. We'll need depth on the O-Line and an eventual replacement for Jake Long. Not to mention, I would look forward to Chris Berman's take on having 2 Jakes starting at OT for us. In the meantime let's savor the performance of Barksdale in rotation with Saffold, who as HUbison accurately points out is likely to walk after this season. He may ultimately be another patient in the Amendola/Gronkowski Clinic, namely New England.

    Go Rams!

I agree with Nick. But is hard to tell what he can become, we have been using a lot of 2 and 3 TE sets lately.

    Re: Thoughts on Barksdale

Why are the Rams so pathetic at developing offensive linemen?
Saffold is the only potential starter that the Rams have drafted and he won't be resigned after this season.
Barksdale is the closest thing they have to a starter that they've developed.

I think Barksdale is a lower level concern. I'd rather replace Dahl, Williams and Wells than Barksdale.
