Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
I have to say, Kevin Demoff has had a great "rookie" offseason. Let's review:
- He brokered the signing of Jason Brown, who was on the "short list" of FA targets for many teams. In fact, he made sure that Brown didn't leave town without a contract.
- He re-signed Ron Bartell without breaking the bank, accurately assessing the market for his services.
- He was patient in signing James Butler, and got him at a good price.
- He succeeded in getting all the rookies signed in time for training camp.
Ram fans owe him a "thumbs up."

Re: Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
My only question that I have is what's left of our Cap? We've gotten everyone signed that we needed to, but what other moves could we have/still do?
Otherwise, he's done a great job at getting a very good offseason done without breaking the bank, now he just needs to work on getting Atogwe a good deal at the end of the season, his one real failure of this offseason.

Re: Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
Thumbs up.
He did everything right this offseason. I may have to give him 10/10 for that job - I can't see a whole lot of things that could have been handled better. And as Avenger said I'm also very happy to have FO staff that know their place in the organisation and don't try to do the coaches' or scouts' jobs for them. That's one of the key signs of a good manager: know when to handle things yourself but for God's sake don't forget there are a lot of other competent people on your staff so don't start interfering and micromanaging them (especially not when you're doing a **** job at it).

Re: Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
Welcome, boys and girls, to Vocabulary 101.
Huh?
Here is the primary definition of the word "praise."
praise (P R āz)
n. Expression of approval, commendation, or admiration.
Here we have a common error. The word "props" (in noun form, as used above) actually is the plural form of a word meaning either "a stick, rod, pole, beam or other rigid support" or "a person or thing serving as a support or stay."I would however, like to give props to him for a job well done so far.
Used in the manner above (i.e. we should give him "props"), the word is a slang term that is short for "propers" or "proper respect." While this form has become popular through common usage (i.e. moron callers to the Jim Rome show typically use this version), it is not, in fact, part of the formal English language.
This has been a public service announcement.Last edited by HUbison; -08-05-2009 at 02:32 PM.

Re: Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
For a first timer he has really done an excellent job not overpaying being patient and keeping the major pieces in place, however there is one tiny little thing that forces me to rate him a 9.4/10 OJ. He isn't signed long term even though he is still here and not holding out I would have liked to see our first or second best defensive player and top 5 safety in this league depending on who you ask, signed long term.

Re: Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
Come on AV this was a waste and potentially racially insensitive (in my opinion as an african-american man). We all know "props" isn't a part of the "formal english language", it is a street term or as the politically correct term would indicate "ebonics".
Let's keep the focus on football and nothing else, I think that's safer my friend.

Re: Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
I thought it was hilarious and true to the point that while most languages are a "growing" thing some words like "props" really don't count as words at all. Another item I find funny (as an Irish-American) is that that since this word is overused by people of all races I cant see where race enters this debate. I just find it a poor choice of word selection overall as AV pointed out.
Also, what I got out of Fourninerhaters message about praise is that that the word in his opinion should be truly reserved for God, Allah or Budda (insert you choice here), but maybe he didnt express that clearly enough.
And finally, by pointing out your opinion on all this, you too have taken the topic off football as well and really soured a funny well written response. But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong..."The disappointment of losing is huge!"

Re: Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
I think our offseason went about as well as it could have. Mr. Demoff has done a great job, and for the first time in a while I am very happy with our front office.
Hopefully this is a sign of things to come, and he will continue to do a great job in the future!

Re: Time to give praise to Kevin Demoff
"Racially insensitive"? Um... huh?
The person I first heard, and most commonly hear, use the term "props" is Jim Rome. That guy couldn't get any whiter if he bathed in Clorox.
"Props" isn't a word. That's not a "racial" thing, that's an "English Language" thing.
Here's the real situation (maybe then we can get back on track).
There are certain posters who I can always count on to post something contrary. You might think that a simple thread about Kevin Demoff would be exempt from that type of response but, alas, you'd be wrong. Even such an innocuous thread receives a criticism over the use of the word "praise." To make it worse, the criticism is clearly baiting to get into a religious debate (What? You think I didn't get that from the beginning?).
Now, I suppose I could just ignore that kind of response, but that really wouldn't be me, would it? Instead, I responded with a tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic, vocabulary lesson (which, by the way, was spot on). Of course, the response to that is more baiting (this time with absurd accusations of racial insensitivity).
In the end, I guess I should accept the fact that I played (and am playing) a part in taking this thread off the rails and leave it at that.
I still think that Demoff deserves our praise.
