Is It Time to Trade Alex Barron?

I think the Rams should consider it. Is he worth anything on the open market? I wonder .. I don't know if we could get anything for Barron, but looking at the situation in reverse, if he played for another team at the same level he's been playing for us, how high a draft pick would anybody on this board want to offer for him? I don't mean to suggest that Alex is entirely worthless, but we could do better. If we end up with the 2nd or 3rd overall pick, we'll likely take an OT and pay him alot of money. Under that scenario, wouldn't it make sense to get whatever we could for Alex, and throw the #2 or 3 pick overall right into the fire? I do think we should keep Pace for another year, as if he finishes the year healthy which is a strong possiblity at this point, he won't break the bank. He might even restructure if asked.

We have two guys on the roster already with playing experience at RT: Jacob Bell, and John Greco, not to mention Goldbrick. Keeping Alex as a backup isn't a luxury we can afford. I don't think he is the answer to replace Orlando Pace either ..

    Thoughts ??

I can't see him going for any higher than a 5th round pick. But in reality, I see him sticking around here for a while, until he's a free agent at least.

We may get a can of soup and half a sandwich for this guy.

If we can trade him for a third round pick, I'd take it! Maybe even a fourth.

I don't know Maui, what about moving him inside. Devaney wants to get bigger & Barron is huge & has the physical tools & maybe, just maybe he can play inside a little better mentally, kinda like what the Cowboys have done with Leonard Davis. Drafting Smith for the RT spot next year could give us that luxury while Pace still has at least another year in him. What do you think? any thoughts?

That's an idea certainly worth considering, BB. The poor Barron probably doesn't have much market value, given his plethora of penalties, although, as Moose said, "if we can trade him for a third round pick, I'd take it! Maybe even a fourth".

He's been around and has learned "to be around" our Rams system. It may help to use him at guard backup and let someone else make the starting OL in his place at RT.

I'll say, unless we have a better replacement at RT, he stays put there. There were way too many, " try outs", at RT before he got here.

Ask Kurt how that worked out !!!

I five yard penalty is much better than a 10 yard sack and a lost fumble !!!

I'm intrigued by the idea of trying him inside where his athleticism would be better than most guards and DTs and where he is close enough to the ball that it might negate the penalties.

Noo trade... Unfortunately, his value is worth more than what you can get on the market.... Most of his foul ups can be coached. Get a good coach who can hold him accountable or motivate him and the potential is there.....

    Go Rams

Barron is a very big guy. I would rather see him as a guard for us than as our tackle, because if he was moved inside, hopefully he can use his size to plug the holes.

I am open to the idea of moving him, but he is such a momentum killer where he is now and all of the penalties. I would consider a trade if he couldn't play guard.

EXACTLY....he's actually been one of the few bright spots this year on the O-line its just the penalties that he needs to fix.

Move him inside, teach him to count to himself and rename his jersey "False Start"

Maybe there is a reason Tennessee didn't mind letting him go...

As long as we aren't paying the bill he can go anywhere for any draft pick imho!
