Timing of New posts- is it my computer or everyone's?

It is taking materially longer for the articles and posts to come up onto my screen after i click on something than it did in the old forum. I have high speed dsl and am wondering if this is something that anyone else is experiencing or is it just something screwy in my computer. I am especially puzzled by the fact that my computer is working ten times slower on this site than anywhere else on the internet.

Thanks to the admins or anyone else for any technological guidance or advice you might have for me.

ramming speed to all.

Mine take a couple seconds max to load, but that's not abnormally slow for my connection.

Re: Timing of New posts- is it my computer or everyone's?

A couple weeks ago my computer was really slowing down, and it was completely spyware related. If you have any spyware programs, general, you might want to run them and see what you can find.

But then again, you said it's not affecting other pages. Hmmm.

I am not experiencing any slowdowns GC. Do you have more than one browser open here at the site? If not, you might try and log out and then log back in.

Re: Timing of New posts- is it my computer or everyone's?

Thanks for the responses guys, unfortunately, i cant get it to speed up (even after logging off and back on again), but of course, my fellow ram bros are always worth waiting for. I will have to get my IT guys to look at it for me after the weekend.

Meanwhile, one other question, what is the fastest way to add a new post. I am a little confused and having trouble finding the way to do it.

thanks again

Just click on post reply or new thread, whichever the case may be. What mode are you in? In your user CP panel you can select different modes for thread appearance. I prefer "linear mode oldest first". You will find these settings in your user CP under "edit options" scroll down and look for thread display.

Re: Timing of New posts- is it my computer or everyone's?

This site is performing slower than we would like, Dez and I will be looking at that over the next few weeks. There are a number of possibilities.

First, Dez's server is located in Europe so network latency could be an issue. Secondly, it is possible that VBPortal is making so many calls to the database to retrieve information that performance suffers.

In any case, stick with us, we will be doing a bunch of work over here and *will* improve performance for everyone. One of the reasons for moving was to have greater control over the site and content. We have that and will use it for the greater good of humanity ... er wait, wrong speech!

Re: Timing of New posts- is it my computer or everyone's?

A couple of things,

1) if you are behind a company firewall, it will be slower, or if you have your firewall screwed right up as well.

2) to add posts fast just hit the "quick reply button" next to the "quote" button. this then allows you to post in the quick reply box

Haven't noticed an difference in speed on my end. Not much of a help, but at least it adds to the pool of information.

Re: Timing of New posts- is it my computer or everyone's?

I do notice some latency - but it is not "unbearable" hopefully there is some tuning that can be done.

I do have dsl as well and this is the only site I am noticing slow down on...

To be more exact, what I am noticing is this....

The Thread will load... and then for the next 10 to 15 seconds all of the avatars and sigs will load...

Dez or Shale - it's not something in the encoding that is forcing a reload of the page each time you hit it it? That is just sort of what it feels like - for instance your sig is always the last to load Dez... I checked my personal browser settings and it is set to reload automaticaly... so typically if I hit a page that I have visited and have the graphics locally that will speed up the appearance of those items...

K - I will quit rambling now - probably barking up the wrong tree - I just know you can set the encoding on web pages to force a reload each time... just thought maybe it might be something similar to that...

Re: Timing of New posts- is it my computer or everyone's?

We are on a cable modem, but our computer just had it's 5th birthday, and even with upgrades, it is still far from top of the line. (AMD 550Mhz, 320 MB RAM, 30 Gig HD, etc.) I know our connection tests out regularly at 2.8Mbps/256, and the longest it takes for a page load on this site is about 7 seconds...and with all the graphics, I think that isn't too out of line. While I am sure Dez and crew will be able to speed it up on thier end, to help you out, make sure to empty your cache regularly....it will make a difference.
