True but Jeff Fisher specialises in dealing with “characters”. Let’s hope that this is another one that he can bring into line and get the best out of.

A week before the Detroit Lions officially released insubordinate wide receiver Titus Young, the Detroit News alluded to the possibility of serious mental and emotional issues.

"I have been told that the organization has pleaded with Young to get help," beat reporter Chris McCosky wrote. "They have set him up with therapists. He has not cooperated."

The first sign that Young's antics had become more disturbing than amusing was the revelation that he sabotaged his own offense by purposely lining up in the wrong spot. The second sign was going rogue on Twitter in an intentional effort to gain his release from the Lions.

Now we have a third sign that Young is detached from reality. In a Christmas conversation with high school coach E.C. Robinson, Young claimed to be every bit as good as fellow Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, the NFL's receiving yards leader in each of the past two seasons.

"He did tell me he thought he was just as good Megatron," Robinson told the Detroit Free Press. "I said, 'Come on, man. Who you talking to?' I said, 'Come on, you're as good as that guy? This guy is the real deal.' And he really believes this. And he was sincere about it. 'Ah man, I'm better than him.' I said, 'No you're not. Be real man. Come on.' So I don't know, I'm hoping for the best for him."

The Lions' scouts, as well as the personnel departments of the other 31 NFL teams, were well aware of Young's character issues coming out of Boise State. Perhaps the experience with the troubled receiver finally will lead to a tightening of the screws in Detroit.

lol gee why would a team with awful receivers grab a guy with tons of talent for absolutely nothing? If he behaves similarly he never plays a snap for the Rams. If he grows up, like most people do, then we add someone who could be our best receiver.

After the offseason he pulled and hearing that he believes hes better then Megatron, not sure how i feel about this move. Im going to sleep on it(since its bed time for me) and mull it over and figure something out.

why would you care if he thinks he's better than Megatron? He should think that. People blasted Eli and Flacco for saying they were elite as well.

The other things Young has done definitely warrant concern but that statement shouldn't surprise or worry anyone.

Also don't see how anyone could be surprised or find this unexpected. Fisher constantly takes chances on high talent character concerns. We literally just signed someone who has the talent to be a Dasean Jackson type talent and gave up nothing for him.

Well yeah. I mean I get it. I'm just not sure I like it. Between sucker punching his own teammate, purposely lining up in the wrong place, threatening to retire if he didnt get the ball more, and boasting that he is better than Calvin Johnson, Titus Young has blossomed into one of the most unlikable people in the league. He might have all the talent in the world but the guy is a grade A knuckle head and I'm nervous about what a guy like that is gonna do to a locker room.

This is very interesting for two reasons.

1. Jeff Fisher obviously knows Young's former head coach, Jim Schwartz, very well, as he was an assistant on his staff in Tennessee for nearly 10 years; and

2. Young's college teammate, Austin Pettis, is on the Rams.

Its certainly possible that the Rams just grabbed Young with the idea of evaluating whether he's a "keeper" at later date, but it also seems plausible that a few phone calls were made before this move. Who knows? If Schwartz and Pettis both told Fisher that this guy can be salvaged, maybe that factored into the decision.

From a skill standpoint alone, Young would be a very good insurance policy against the possible loss of Danny Amendola.

Whether it works out or not, I like that this Rams' Front Office is proactive.

I care cause while hes had a history of "mental issues" this kind of adds onto it. Forgot i wasnt supposed to care or have an opinion on a player. my bad....

Talent of Desean Jackson? He hasnt shown that yet. maybe in time but so far i dont see it.

Words cannot describe how pumped I am at this move. He is a free second round pick with loads of talent on a dirt cheap contract. If he acts up, we cut him. Plain and simple.

Welcome Titus! I think he is instantly our most talented WR.


Les & Jeff have the biggest cojones in the NFL, and boy do I love it.

if he acts like that he'll never make it into a locker room. He'll likely end up cut before the OTAS are over.

Also he's 22/23 years old. I'm not going to speak for everyone but a lot of us were knuckleheads at that age. I'm not excusing his behavior, rather stating it's something that could improve and usually does for most people.
