    Tru(maine) Johnson

I've seen posts here mentioning converting him to a Safety. Just want to take a poll on if a lot of you feel that. Before the season started last year, I was one of them. And actually I even had it my preseason mock starting roster. However, seeing him play CB, especially at the end of the season (TB game), he seems like he will be a very solid 2nd CB. Have Finnegan cover slot receivers and have Jenkins/Tru as a CB combo for a half decade to come. I think they will turn out to be one of the best duos in the league.

Then again I feel physicality/body wise Tru might be a great built to convert to Safety. I was thinking if we kept Fletcher or if we picked up another cover CB, then the conversion might be a good move. Since both of those did not happen, a conversion might not be the way to go anymore.

What do you guys think? I just want to more or less, gauge how many think converting Tru is a good idea? Because I have a feeling it might be a good amount.

If we don't get a safety in the draft or free agency then I wouldn't mind at all. I thought when he first came out he was a safety. He has the speed and get can tackle so it wouldn't be a bad move to me.

He's big enough. Fast enough. Actually tackles. Seems like a good choice for FS.

Good idea, plus it surely saves some money. He's also got a years NFL time under his belt, and knows the system. Perhaps bulk up a few pounds, and he's got the potential.

Fisher has stated multiple times that Trumaine is a CB drafted to play CB and not convert to safety. I, like many others, would love to see Tru roaming the field as our ballhawk, but I just don't think Fisher's going to do that.

What he said. This was talked about last year and quickly shot down.

Training camp will tell. That is the great equalizer. If the secondary is stronger with him switching then Fisher will make the change, irrespective of the original drafting impulse.

I prefer Tru at CB. It's not very often you find a CB that's 6'1 and can actually run and keep up with the WR's of the league. The league is changing. People are falling in love with those 6'5 WR's. We need a guy that we can stick on someone big. Tru clearly showed he was able to cover WR's very effectively and I see no reason to change that.

As I have stated in a couple other threads as well... We should be drafting two safties! As our wise and venerable coach has stated Trumaine is indeed a CB most here agree. Maybe in a few years when he loses some quickness and a step then he might convert as many have. For now and the near future he is where he belongs. And I think most of us are very happy with him!

    Re: Tru(maine) Johnson

I would keep him at CB. As much as I hate to say it, I love Seattle's cornerbacks. They are all like 6'4 and are deceivingly fast. I'd love to keep some size at CB since our cornerbacks are not very big to begin with.

We just solved the problems with our CB corps by drafting Jenkins and Tru. Lets keep it at that for now and be happy with a great CB up and coming CB corps

    Re: Tru(maine) Johnson

I did not know Fisher said that last year, good to know. And yes, one of the main reasons I am keen to having him stay at CB. Receivers are getting big. Browner and Sherman showed that big CBs might be the future of CB, if so Tru could be one of the next big CBs in the league.

Plus if he pans out he will have a good payday after his rookie contract replacing Finnegan.

    Re: Tru(maine) Johnson

With some better play from the secondary, Trumaine can be put into possitions as a CB where he can put major hits on crossing WRs and pass catching TEs. It comes down to schemes where the Rams can bait opponents to run a ball catcher right into his sites. Futher, Trumaine is actually one of several "Spies" that can be used to {T-off} on the 49whinners QB--like a weakside CB Blitz
