True Story About A Rams Defense That Got It Right... Almost

It was November 4, 1979.

The Los Angeles Rams visited the Kingdome in Seattle for a matchup with the upstart Seattle Seahawks. But the Rams defense was more than stout that day, and by the end of the game, a record had been set.

Seahawks total yards: -7

Throughout the world, Rams fans swelled with pride. This truly was a great accomplishment.

But... somewhere in Texas, one Rams fan took no joy.

"The defense did okay... but how in God's name do they allow that 11 yard completion to Largent in the 3rd Quarter?" he exclaimed. "An absolute disgrace!" he shouted.

Years later, the advent of the internet would give this Rams fan a forum for his defensive perfectionism.

His name... is txramsfan.

sorry, but that was a good post, it made me realize that we did have a dominate defense at one time, or even one game. sorry about that word AvengerRam.

Re: True Story About A Rams Defense That Got It Right... Almost

I was a rams fan in Texas at that time. I remeber that game well. There was a big story in the San Antonio Express News that had a picture Jack Youngblood tackling Jim Zorn I think. I save that article for like ten years...And my wife threw it away with some other cool sports stuff.

It was truely a great day to be a Rams fan. And yes their was a time when the Rams were known for defense!!!

bbbwwwaaahhhhh.......that was funny.

Wow, I loved that defense. I just wish that Cromwell would have been an inch or two taller. That pass from Bradshaw to Stallworth would have been deflected and the Rams would have had their first Super Bowl.

I mean, c'mon.....Youngblood played that Super Bowl WITH A BROKEN LEG. You gotta love that defense.

I think it was Perry who was featured on the cover of SI with that ball about 1/4 inch from his finger tips prior to falling into Stallworths arms.

Re: True Story About A Rams Defense That Got It Right... Almost

boy, was that a great team. and that pass over rod perry, that was heart breaking. i really thought that the rams outplayed the steelers the whole game , people everywhere said that they didn't deserve to be there. that the cowboy's were the better team. i say MONKEYNUT'S. those two long passes, they just killed me. they had ROD PERRY listed at something like 5'9. , i think he was 5'7-1/8 . the pass would have never made it at 5'9. and the thing that kills me ,i was watching football network, and bradshaw was being interviewed, and that play , or i should say, those two long pass plays, were the same play. and they had never ever worked before, not once. bradshaw said coach chuck noll had called a differant play, and bradshaw changed it on a mistake or fluke and it worked, so they did it again. and that was the last time the play worked. and as for MR. YOUNGBLOOD, the toughest guy to play the game , and the best ram to where the uniform. IT'S TRUE CUZ MY MOMMA SAY IT'S SO.
