    Tuesday Rams News and Notes

    Tuesday News and Notes
Posted by nickwagoner on September 4, 2012 – 8:32 PM

    - Just a little bit of housecleaning here today before we get to the real action starting tomorrow.

    - The entire roster and coaching staff attended a luncheon benefiting the United Way in downtown St. Louis today. Before and after, they will have some meetings and some film work to handle as preparation begins for Detroit.

    - The Rams roster churn seems to have stopped for now though the Rams do have one practice squad spot remaining. The seven current members of the practice squad are: RB Chase Reynolds, LB Aaron Brown, TE Cory Harkey, G Brandon Washington, WR Nick Johnson and DE Mason Brodine.

    - Recently released TE Michael Hoomanawanui signed with Washington’s practice squad Tuesday. Interesting to note that the Redskins released Deangelo Peterson, another former Ram, to make room for Hoomanawanui.

    - The Rams sent out their game release today and included in it is the first depth chart of the regular season. Now, it’s important to remember that this is UNOFFICIAL, it by no means guarantees anything. But there are a few interesting things to note from it should you be into that kind of thing.

    - First, Rokevious Watkins is listed as the 1LG. We don’t know if he’ll start. Heck, he was announced as the starter in pregame in the final preseason game then it was actually Robert Turner. But there’s no doubt that the Rams have been grooming Watkins for the job since the day he arrived. Coach Jeff Fisher has no qualms playing youngsters and Watkins getting a chance would be no surprise. The guess here for now is that Watkins gets the chance. We’ll see how the week goes.

    - No surprise here but Rocky McIntosh is listed as the starting SLB. He started the final two preseason games at that spot and appears to have won the job over Mario Haggan, who is listed as the backup and will be a special teams contributor.

    - The safety position is also interesting. As it stands, this is how it looks:

SS – Darian Stewart, Craig Dahl, Matt Daniels
FS – Quintin Mikell, Rodney McLeod

Stewart is listed as the starter above Dahl, who got most of the work in the preseason. Again, it very well may not be that way on Sunday in Detroit but it seems Stewart could get the first crack at starting next to Mikell if he’s healthy enough to play.

    - Some notes on numbers changes that come with the roster shuffling.

    - New additions and their numbers: OT Ty Nsekhe (No. 69), G Shelley Smith (No. 66), RB Terrance Ganaway (No. 42) and DT Kellen Heard (No. 96).

    - Also, Rocky McIntosh switched to No. 50 after sharing 59 with Turner in the preseason.

    - McLeod switched from 38 to 23.

    - Aaron Brown, who had been No. 50 in the preseason, is now No. 54 on the practice squad.

    - Brandon Washington, who is on the practice squad, is wearing No. 70.

    - That’ll do it for today. The Rams hit the practice field on Wednesday and we’ll have all kinds of updates throughout the week. Thanks for reading.

Ummm.... how about listing the entire depth chart as it now stands & let us decide what's interesting ? The Rams site version still has Salas & Ojinnaka on it, fer cryin' out loud.

Yeah, it seems the Rams' fan info support system is still below par, How hard is it to find a tech-savvy intern to keep this stuff up to date ? Doesn't help that Wagoner still seems to think he's an independent analyst & not largely just an informational mouthpiece for the organization.

Outstanding work, Rambos. And there ARE some juicy tidbits that NW failed to mention. Dahl is the #2 FS, not in a mystery zone with Stewart at SS. Also didn't know that Hayes was #2 at LDE, rather than RDE.

I can see some panties getting bunched about the WR rotation as listed as well.

Dont listen to depth charts until the week 1 game is in place. Matthew Mulligan as the #1 TE? Right....

Your point is well made. With a few important exceptions, too much is made of the starter thing, imo. That said, Mulligan probably IS more likely to take the first snap at TE because he's an in-line blocker & this is going to be a run-first team,imo.. It's situational & strategic, not about who is the better guy in the general sense, right ?

Re: Tuesday Rams News and Notes

Very, VERY interesting that Mulligan is listed as the starter at TE over Kendricks.

Although, it is likely we would start in a 2 TE set against Detroit and pound the rock

Yeah this is what they just released game time is game time.. I will be so jacked on game day I won't know who the hell is one the field.

I have been trolling on some Lion boards and they think Jenkins can't tackle to save his life... we soon see what we have.

Right, but even in that sense, Kendricks in my opinion is a better blocker than Mulligan. Kendricks was an amazing blocker last year, not to mention if he can get his hands "under" him again, he will be a huge weapon.

Have not heard much about Harvey Dahl's status, but it's good to see himat least listed as the starter.

I'm super excited about The Lancenator, too, but I seriously hope you're wrong about his being a better blocker than Mulligan.Otherwise, why is MM on the team at all ? Surely it's not as a dual threat; the guy has caught 6 passes in 34 regular season appearances. If he can't use that extra 25lbs of beef to justify his spot....

Good point Mike, Spags would spend 15 mins going over in detail the player specific injuries. Those days are long gone Fisher is more like Bill Belichick not going to know much about players status.

We may have Rok and Turner playing this week. I hope not.
