Tye Hill Leaves Practice With Swollen Knee

Rams CB Tye Hill leaves practice with swollen knee
    By Jim Thomas
    St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Cornerback Tye Hill hobbled to the sidelines midway through Tuesday morningís practice at Rams Park, and subsequently had his right knee wrapped. Justin King and Quincy Butler took over Hillís reps with the first unit for the rest of practice.

Itís the same knee that needed surgery last season and sidelined Hill for most of the 2008 campaign. Obviously, a healthy and resurgent Hill is one of the keys to improved secondary play by St. Louis this season. Coach Steve Spagnuolo didnít sound overly corncerned following the morning workout.

ďHeís got a little bit of swelling in that knee,Ē Spagnuolo said. ďHe just has to fight through that. Once the swelling goes down, I think heíll be fine.Ē

_ Veteran linebacker Chris Draft, who had been working with the starting unit recently at the strongside position, sat out the morning workout after being poked in the throat Monday. Itís thought to be a bruised throat, but Draft was scheduled for additional testing.

_ Defensive tackle Adam Carriker (sprained ankle) sat out the morning session, marking the third straight practice day he has been sidelined

_ Craig Dahl, who was shaping up as the favorite for the No. 4 safety spot before suffering a hamstring injury in Fridayís scrimmage, returned to practice Monday morning, getting limited work.

_ Larry Grant replaced Draft with the starters at strongside linebacker and intercepted a Marc Bulger pass intended for Steven Jackson during a red zone drill.

_ For the second day in a row, running back Antonio Pittman got some reps with the starting unit.

_ The team was in full pads, as usual, Tuesday morning. After a respite from live work Monday, the Rams had one live tackling period Tuesday.

_ In terms of catching passes, wide receiver Derek Stanley had one of his most productive practices of camp Tuesday morning, including a leaping catch over the middle in tight coverage.

I'm not going to worry about Hill until there is a structural problem.

I'm still very hopeful that Larry Grant can become that SLB we need.

I'm really starting to worry about Carriker...we probably won't ever see his fullest potential at the rate he gets injured.

As for Hill...meh. I'd rather see King play.

As am I. I'm really rooting for him to stand out enough to get some looks with the starters in the preseason games, and earn the starting spot, although reason tells me that Draft is going to get the nod, from his experience.

It's just a sprained ankle for AC, and we knew that he was going to be out for a couple weeks with it. Personally I'd rather him miss those two weeks now than later. It does make you wonder if the added weight that he put on to be a nose tackle isn't causing some issues. He might be better as a 295 tackle than a 310+ guy.

This has to be discouraging for Tye Hill. The kid just can't catch a break.

I'm worried too. It seems like he's been hampered by nagging injuries his entire career.

Agreed. This is the last thing he needs while trying to regain not only his form, but his confidence. I'll trust Spags that it's probably nothing to really worry about, but deep down, recurring injuries always worry me.
