UPDATE: Bradford confirmed out for season with reinjured knee

    Per Nick Wagoner:

CLEVELAND -- St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford limped out of Saturday night's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns with eight minutes and 19 seconds to go in the first quarter after suffering a left knee injury.

A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that initial tests did not show any damage to Bradford's surgically repaired left ACL.

Trainers tend to Rams quarterback Sam Bradford after he injured his left knee during Saturday night's preseason game against the Browns.
The source told Schefter the Rams "dodged a bullet."

Bradford will undergo an MRI no later than Sunday, a source told ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortensen.

Bradford took what appeared to be a light hit from Cleveland defensive lineman Armonty Bryant as he threw incomplete for tight end Jared Cook. Bradford shrugged Bryant off but Bryant made contact with Bradford's left knee.

After a beat, Bradford fell to the ground in pain as Rams doctors and trainers rushed to his side. Bradford limped off the field under his own power but favoring the left leg. He went to the locker room for further examination.

A few plays earlier, Bradford escaped pressure from Cleveland linebacker Barkevious Mingo but took another hit on the knee.

Bradford was making his second start of the preseason after returning from a torn left ACL suffered against Carolina on Oct. 20, 2013, that ended his season.

Bradford went 4 of 9 for 77 yards before leaving. Veteran Shaun Hill entered to replace Bradford.

St. Louis lost two other players in the opening quarter as defensive tackle Kendall Langford and guard Rodger Saffold went out with leg injuries.

Two more Rams were injured on the same play in the second quarter. Left cornerback Trumaine Johnson and defensive tackle Michael Brockers went down, but Brockers walked off under his own power.

Johnson's injury appeared to be serious. He was taken off the field on a cart, and several teammates wished him well before he was driven away.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
Interesting to note that he favoured the left leg while walking off.

I've got a strong feeling he'll be fine. He tweaked it - and they did the right thing and moved him out of a meaningless game.

Johnson could be a major blow though. We need some experience there.

    Re: Bradford Injures Left Knee

When they say that initial tests did not show damage to the ACL, that means they manipulated the knee to test whether it would slide laterally, indicating the absence of an intact ligament (I've had that done to my knee when I re-injured it).

The fact that this external test did not show anything probably means that there was not a complete re-tearing of the ACL. It does not rule out a partial tear or a meniscus tear. That will require an MRI.

Hopefully it's nothing serious and Sam will be okay for Week One. It didn't look like that bad of a hit, but I guess you never know.

    Re: Bradford Injures Left Knee

We need Sam to be healthy. If he can play this year and play 16 games, I honestly believe we will win 10 or 11 games. We finally have some decent WR's... And how about Quick? Wow. That guy has stepped it UP! But this is what most of us expected anyways, a 3rd year breakout for Brian. Kenny looks to be an amazing signing too. Sprinkle in some Bailey and Austin and you have a very formidable WR corps.

    Re: Bradford Injures Left Knee

Coach was just quoted as saying "It appears to be just a hyperextension." Av and other experts, any speculation as to what that usually means in terms of how long he might be out? I appreciate that is depends on severity and we wont know until we see the MRI, but we are all desperate for anything at this point. Patience is not easy, even until tomorrow!

THe Trumaine situation looks bad. No comment from coach on that one yet.

It looks like he grabs the left knee not the repaired right knee.
