Re: Balzer's Update on Rams Cap Room

Can someone please tell me why we are still suffering from J. Smith? I thought we traded him? How exactly does "Dead Money" work?

Also for those who want to restructure Sam's contract, how? he is making just over 12 this year, and the next two he makes 17.5 and 16.5. I don't see how you can shift his number over to the next years. Chances are after this year they will deal with him (hopefully contract extension) to help lower his cap number.

"Year 1 of Jake Long's contract counts $4 1/2 milion against cap per league source. Leaves Rams w/about $3 million of space at the moment."

Yep, forgot the dead money on those two, thanks.

According to Jim Thomas, the Rams have $3 million left, and as I explaiined in that other post, they have loads of time to get under when they actually SIGN draft picks, they don't have to be under to draft.

Greg Salas also costs $225000 this year in dead money. Mikell shows $6 million and Smith $4 million on that great site.

The Rams won't cut Dahl, and they can save $2 million in cap simply by guaranteeing his salary.

He is worth $4 million a year, so why cut HIM?

Re: Balzer's Update on Rams Cap Room

Based on the cap numbers I am looking at, here are the top savings possible to the Rams in 2013:
Since the guys making $1.3 million would presumably be replaced by guys at $450,000, it really doesn't add much in cap to cut those good pllayers.

With $3 million left, they will be just fine, and they will easily find the money to sign draft picks by July.

    Harvey Dahl: $4M
    Langford: $3M
    Stewart: $1.3M
    Dunbar: $1.3M
    Saffold: $880K

I don't see any of those guys getting cut, all of them are worth more than the money we'd save by releasing them.
