St. Louis Rams coaches have been in contact Thursday with their veteran players who are under contract about returning to "work" at Rams Park.
Middle linebacker James Laurinaitis said via text that "some of us" will be at Rams Park on Friday.
But another player, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said many players are still spread out all over the country. This player said several of his teammates aren't anxious to rush back to St. Louis only to have the lockout conditions resume in a day or two. That would happen if the 8th Circuit Court of Apperals in St. Louis grants an NFL request for a temporary stay of Judge Susan Richard Nelson's decision to end the lockout.
The NFL announced Thursday that clubs were free to contact players immediately to advise them about the team facility being open, to schedule medical and rehabilitation activity, and to arrange meetings with coaches.
As of 7 a.m. Friday, St. Louis time, players are permitted to use the facility. Clubs are permitted to distribute playbooks. and coaches can meet with players.
The Rams aren't scheduled to begin their OTAs (the spring practices known as organized team activities) until May 14. But the normal offseason conditioning program -- involving mainly weight training and conditioning drills -- can basically start immediately.
