we have no one to blame but ourselves

we are out, and its not the redskins fault. The loss at home to arizona, a game in which we barely showed up, knocked us out as a practical matter. That game was an absolute disgrace.

Even if we win tomorrow, we are a classic mediocre team. We beat ONE team with a winning record and that was in week one. People got excited because we had back to back wins against oakland and washington, two of the absolute worst teams in the entire league. The fact of the matter is we couldnt get it done all year against a quality team and we dont deserve to be in the playoffs.

That being said, i believe we are a playoff team next year. We will take steps to improve the personnel on defense in the offseason, we will get pace back and we will improve on the oline with the help of our young guys and possibly a free agent signing. The front office isnt stupid, they know we desparately need a pass rushing end opposite leonard and some method of improving against the run. We also need to get bulger signed long term, which should be priority #1.

Lets hope we beat the vikings and finish strong. It will be interesting to see which rams team shows up tomorrow now that the game will be basically meaningless. I will be really upset if we come out and look pathetic and flat like we did against arizona.

GC, you are right. If we come out and play for the pride of going .500 then I think that we may have finally turned the corner and better things will come next year. I hate it when we put ourselves in the position of needing others to assist us getting into the playoffs. We contol our own fate week in and week out and did not get it done this year...(There is a whole quarter to go in the Giants game and anything can happen since it is the Giants, so I will gladly recant part of this if a miracle happens).

So much for the playoffs folks. Tiki came to play tonight and got the Giants into the playoffs...

Re: we have no one to blame but ourselves

Ahhh, and I mentioned yesterday that Tiki might not be too interested in going out "with a bang" on this one. Good grief, he sets a NY Giants franchise record.

But your point is well taken, GC. We got ourselves into this situation. :\

On the other hand, as several of us Clanners attested early on, we are / were a team in transition, even if we got a little excited there for a while, when we showed flashes of potential and success.

Yes, I agree. Next year we can certainly have better control of our destiny and establish a playoff berth without depending so much on FOUR other games to go our way. That's just going too much against the odds.

While we didn't do ourselves any favors, I still was hopeful. Even one of the games against the Shehawks would have been monumental.

Re: we have no one to blame but ourselves

I hate having to rely on people for things, whether it be homework, or simply playing a video game. Same goes for the team, I hate the fact that we'd have to rely on 3-4 teams to lose so we can achieve our goal. I don't think many teams in the NFC really deserved a chance at wild-card (even the pitiful Giants...) anyway. I still think our team is headed into the right direction though, its painful to see our chances at playoffs slip away from us like this, but what can ya do? If its meant to be, its meant to be. But I for one like to make things happen for ME. Relying on others just shows weakness...

I hate to agree with this, but I have to. Truth be told, I wasn't exactly looking forward to the defense getting manhandled in the post-season anyways. Still, for this beat up team and a rookie head coach to have a shot at post-season play this late in the season makes me a proud Rams fan and gives me hope for next season.

The Rams lost games that they should have won this year. They really have not played well enough to be in the playoffs, but they had some nice moments.

I am not upset to see them sit out for the playoffs.

Re: we have no one to blame but ourselves

I'm bummed and would have loved to be playing for a playoff spot tomorrow, but like GC said, we only have ourselves to blame. I'll still be living and dying on every play against the Vikings because I don't know any other way. A win tomorrow is still important IMO for the attitude of the team and as a positive to build on.

At least now I don't have to waste time flipping to all those other meaningless games tomorrow.

It is a bummer we are out, but let's finish this....let's beat the Vikings. Also, would be nice if others got a chance to play....to see what we have on our roster, going into next year.
