We lost this game because of 1 play
We can go into all the missed opportunites by our offense. The bogus Pass Interference call in overtime. There's 1 play that sticks out in my mind.
RAMS 17
Whiners 13
4th quarter...2:23 left on the clock
Whiners are faced with a 4th and 18 at the RAMS 39 yard line.
Troy Smith hits Frank Gore for a 23 yard gain!!!!!
That hurt me as fan imagine what it did to our team.

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
Agreed! He should never have been allowed to get that 1st down.
If you were a secondary player, and you seen Gore wide open a few yards short of the marker, would you not think to close him down just incase the balls thrown to him?!
That was the biggest play, BUT, if we had called a proper play on the 3rd down instead of the S-Jax screen before the FG to tie the game, we might and probably would have won the game in regulation time.
As the old saying goes, its all ifs and buts....

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
One missed play that sticks out in my mind is the pass from Bradford to Daniel Fells on our last drive before the end of regulation. The ball is thrown on Fells' hip but is still catchable. If he catches that ball its automatically a first down and possibly a touchdown because Fells had a step on the defender.
That play really hurt me after I found out the eventual score.

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
Actually, there were quite a few plays that COULD have made a difference. That's what makes us a 4-5 team. We're not making plays that need to be made. Whether it's missed opportunities for interceptions, catchable balls that are dropped, receivers lacking the game and field position awareness to make a 1st down instead of looking to break one, coverage mistakes, dumb penalties a crucial moments; we are making mistakes. However, we're still getting better. I think we'd all agree that this team is better than we thought they'd be before the season began (maybe that's why the losses hurt so much). Some of our issues can be resolve with coaching. Some won't be resolved until there are personnel changes. Bottomline, although these losses are tough to take, let's be glad that the light we see at the end of the tunnel no longer seems to be an on-coming train.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!!

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
The play when Gibson nearly had the first down then stopped to dance around really bothered me

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
Word got around work quickly to not ask me about the game. When a coworker is getting ready to speak and you ask them "Is what you are getting ready to say worth a kick in your junk?"

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
Things I was not happy with.
1. The play the OP mentioned.
2. The 3rd and 23 (something like that) that the ***** converted.
3. The PI interference.
4. The screen to Jackson. What are we thinking.
5. The decision not to be aggressive before halftime.
6. MOST OF ALL. THE FAKE FG WE TRIED TO ATTEMPT INSTEAD OF LETTING JOSH BROWN ACTUALLY KICK A 50 YARDER.
If Brown makes that, we win the game...

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
This team basically had 2 weeks to prepare for the ***** and they choked the game away. How do you lose to a division rival, with a QB that I didn't even know was in the NFL and in Last place?? I blame this on the Coaching staff for all the Mental breakdowns. Come on Rams!!!!! What a disappointment. This work week is gonna suck with all these ***** fans thinking they have won the Super Bowl. Sigh!!!!

We need better O-line play. Open up some holes for Jackson to breeze through. These guys are resembling marshmallows again.

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
The Rams just need to learn how to CLOSE GAMES IN THE 2ND HALF
There are some games we've won, but those wins were mostly based on 1st half production.
There were many missed opportunities in this game, however, I still contend that offensive play calling is bad.
Case in point- with ~2 min left and we were down 20-17 and driving. We didnt make 1 play to the end zone. It looked all along as if we were playing to TIE THE GAME RATHER THAN GO FOR THE WIN.
They way this offense has been designed so far is such that we are still looking for the 5-8 yard pass completion. I rarely see Sam look downfield past a linebacker for a completion. Now is this due to the lack of a #1 receiver? or is this coming from Schurmer/Spags and their seemingly conservative nature?Last edited by punahou; -11-17-2010 at 08:33 PM.

Re: We lost this game because of 1 play
The game was gift wrapped and handed to the Rams all they had to do was show up on 4th and 4-ever and the game would have been over. The growing pains are killing me but much rather see them in a fight and competing. Ever week this team gets closer and closer in becoming a contender. All they need is more experience and someone on the O side to step up and become a playmaker.
Go Rams
