We might get lucky (Curtis)

I have this feeling that Curtis will be back as a Ram.

I have read several articles about how happy Curtis is in St. Louis and how he doesn't mind his role. If you think about it, Curtis really has the best of both words. He gets playing time in a wide open system. He hasn't the pressures of a one or 2. His role is defined. He knows a system. He has less chance of big injuries. The list could go on. He has seen what has happened to people like Az, Price, Moss, Moulds. When you place such high expectations on people you are bound to fail.

It wouldn't shock me to see the Rams retain him, with a nice contract with more guaranteed money at the end. The only thing that prevents him from staying a Ram is that the market has so few choices at his position that he could hit a HUGE pay day.

Re: We might get lucky (Curtis)

I think Curtis will be gone, the huge amounts of money out there, someone is going to spend BIG on the WR position and with limit options at WR in FA.. well!!!! hope I'm wrong

Re: We might get lucky (Curtis)

I think the only hope the Rams have is to get an agreement done before free agency starts in March. Because once Curtis starts talking to other teams and seeing the money on the table, he's gone.

Re: We might get lucky (Curtis)

The way I see it is where else are we going to spend our money. Teams will be way over paying people this season with the new salary cap and there is a butt load of money available to us as well. Why not pay the guy as well as go after one more high price defensive player. We have the funds, us them on our own. I am guessing Bulger gets an extension, Curtis is signed, Stussie is signed, Turk is signed and we get Grant and Sands through free agency. Then look for something similar to what they did last year. They will draft at least 3 linebackers.

Re: We might get lucky (Curtis)

as much as it would be nice for the rams organization to retain curtis's services, as limited as it is, i would rather see him become the no. 2 somewhere where he can flourish and make a mark in this league for himself...

i mean, the guy is 28 y.o., going on 29 in july...and still a back up...if he was 23 or 24 then he can afford to wait bruce out...

Re: We might get lucky (Curtis)

I really hope we get to keep him, but as has been said already there are lots of teams with a whole lot of cap space and very few quality FA's available so I really doubt it. This current situation in the league however only highlights how smart we were to get Little and Tinoisamoa signed in the middle of the season, good moves there.

Re: We might get lucky (Curtis)

i think it will be very hard to keep him, i believe him when he says he likes st. louis and all that, but when other teams start throwing all that cash at him it could be tough to stay, unless we come very close.if he does stay it will a hugh plus for us.

Good point.

Relatively speaking, NFL careers are short, as far as careers go, so each player has an obligation to look out for himself and his family (if he has one).

Since there is no such thing as loyalty in this business, I say say go out there and grab whatever you can while you can. I hope he hits the jackpot!

Re: We might get lucky (Curtis)

So if we pay him huge signing bonuses, those do not factor in against the salary cap right? If they don't, then give him current market value that way.

Signing bonus money is prorated over the length of the contract. So if you give him a $10 million signing bonus for a five year contract, the player will get all that money up front but only $2 million of it will count against the cap each year.

He's gone. He'll prob be looking for more money and a bigger role that the Rams won't be able to give to him for at leat another season or two.

Re: We might get lucky (Curtis)

Yeah guys I also love curtis, love em as a ram but If he can be a 2 somewhere with more pay, why wouldn't he. Honestly I think prehaps it's a good idea to be looking in the draft anyway. let's get a young kid with some talent, That can soak up bruce's knowledge. Torry isn't a young grass hopper now either. this is a position thaT needs some youth.
