We are misusing Carriker
Run Stuffers are much easier to find than pass rushers. Carriker's talents are being wasted and it remains to be seen whether he can make the transition to NG at 6'6'.
It was a bad idea to take an early-mid first round pick and make him into a project at another position. He should play DE and maybe some of the 3 technique tackle, but
it's a waste to play him at NG. Not to mention Carriker's career would be extended by playing DE or 3 technique.
Move him to RDE and let him play.
Re: We are misusing Carriker
I don't know that Carriker's career would be extended by playing 3-technique. Ted Washington is almost 40 years old and he's still getting paid to clog the middle.
Personally, I like the idea of Carriker lining up as a 3-technique next to Clifton Ryan. With Leonard Little and James Hall at end, I don't think a rookie Carriker is necessarily going to be an upgrade in the short run. In the long run, we're probably going to need to draft a defensive end to replace Little soon anyway, and we'd probably like someone with more speed to fill his shoes.
