I have been playing conservatively, but I have been told go big or go home and I am considering it. Can someone help a non betting person out?

The rams are given + 9.5 points in the spread. Does that mean picking the rams to win the spread will mean they get within 9 points of the saints even if they lose? Picking the saints means they have to win by 9.5 + points?

Is this right? Score is rams 14 saints 21, saints win the game but lose the spread? Score is rams 10 saints 24, saints win game and spread? Score is rams 21, saints 20, rams win the game and the spread?

If I am not allowed to ask dumb questions, just let me know and I will go research this. A 9.5 spread seems huge to me.

It's not a dumb question whatsoever, hope i can answer it for you.

Firstly - not to deflect any blame or responabilty on myself, i dont, and ever have made the spread for the Rams game, i refer and use the odds from a Las Vegas betting site, the site is the one i've always used ever since i've took over the running of the competition, What i do, do at times is not include the spread for the purposes of the competition throughout the course of the season, making it a straight 'call the winner' NO line event.

So whatever the spread is on the betting website for the Rams game i use, albeit a + or - pts spread, There always is a half point included in the spread so that makes it that there can never be a tie in the game.

Yeah, you've kinda answered your own question right, basically, take this week for example, the Rams have a +9.5pts spread,

So in theory the Rams start the game at the kickoff 9.5 - 0 up against the Saints, the game is played out and whoever has the most points(spread included) wins the game for the purpose of betting and this competition.

The Rams COULD actually lose the actual game say 20-16, however for betting purposes and the competition add the 9.5pts to the Rams score = 20-25.5, thats regarded as a Rams win.

If you want to call for a Rams win, for the Rams to win in the competition they basically have to

1) Win the actual game
or
2) Saints win the actual game BUT with a margin of over 9.5pts.

Thanks Mark. Good info. I had not really thought too much about the spread before. I have mostly been picking who I think should win the game, and that works if the spread is small. The half point makes a lot of sense now too.
