We need a pass rush plain and simple. The key is the front four obviously. Having to blitz is always a gamble.:r
EXECUTION

I'm all for blitzing every down. Yea, we're going to give up some plays, but everything has a price. If nothing else, it gets the D off the field quicker.

For me its stop the run. It changes the game, it gives the offense options. Once the run is neutralized it gives the defense some opitions. Execution would also be nice.

Execution is the most important thing. You can blitz all you want, but if it is not executed properly then its not going to work.

Pash rush, having a pash rush will help EVERYONE else on defense, especially travis fisher, maybe if we had more of a pash rush, less pressure would be on his shoulders and people would lay off him a bit

They have to do something to stop the run, force teams to go to the air and the turn overs will happen.

Re: What is the best bet for improving the defesne THIS YEAR?
Our "D" has been a HUGE letdown and NIGHTMARE since week 1 but then again a couple of guys made some plays to help us steal a game or two.
Consistency does not exist.
We need some personnel changes but Haslett never benched Brooks when he stunk up the joint and had DelHomme on the bench and I am afraid he may have have that philosophy with his unit. Benching guys sometimes builds a fire for players not playing too well and maybe pumps up the sub to play better where he may be the new no. 1 and at this point if we do notch some wins he (haslett) will have the opportunity to tinker with his guys all he wants but that is a scenario I dread.
Let's trade him and fakhir brown for Lovie and Hurlacher:x !!! lol
Play Adarian's choice ( a little smoke please )Claude Wroten a lot more he looked good vs miami (got ya AV lol ) and at least he hustles.
The DL play reminds me of our President and some of our FO people:
LAME DUCKS!!!
My fingers are crossed and we need a WIN!:r :r :l :r

Re: What is the best bet for improving the defesne THIS YEAR?
Forcing teams to go to the air isnt going to cause turnovers without a pass rush. While we arent stopping the run, our inability to get a pass rush is really whats killing us. It cost us the seattle game for sure and hurt us badly in san diego when we had them backed up in third and long.
Turnovers come from pressure or from lousy execution by the other team. Better teams (ie the seattles, san diegos, carolina, and kc of the world) are a LOT less likely to screw up on their own without pressure than arizona, green bay and detroit, which explains their records. Thus, we need pass rush to cause pressure that will lead to turnovers.

But if you don't stop the run, a good pass rush isn't going to win you many games. Put eight in the box; make the young QB's like Huard, win the game for the other team, they will make mistakes. Once you establish solid run defense, you can pin your ears back and bring the kitchen sink.
