What to do with our cap money
We now have some room. What to do with it?
General question. Are we inclined to shoot our load on one guy (ie a surtain) or try to go for depth/wait until post june 1.
Here is one issue that concerns me, aside from the obvious gaping hole at right tackle. If we spend the money now and lose leonard little we are in deep, deep doodie. Of course, if we lose little, we wont be able to replace him no matter how much money we have, but even a reasonable replacement is going to really cost post june 1, especially given that fisher is gone.
Personally, I like the idea of adding depth, especially based on what is available post june 1, rather than trying for one big guy like surtain.

Re: What to do with our cap money
I'm inclined to go after Akin Ayodele of the Jags, he's a RFA so it would depend on the comp but I think that he could be very good in our system at SLB and can rush the passer on 3rd down
Re: What to do with our cap money
The two players "on the market" who are most intriguing to me right now are Surtain and, possibly, Hartwell (though I'm not sure what the Rams would do with Claiborne, Coakley, Hartwell and Pisa (who I don't think is going to be playing SS)).
My guess is that the Rams will save do nothing now and instead wait until the June 1 cuts for "hole fillers."
Re: What to do with our cap money
Keep in mind we'll have even more cap space when we cut Kyle Turley after June 1st. Does anybody know how much we'll save?
Also, Ayodele would require 3rd round compensation. But I'd think he's well worth it. However, if Archuleta/Pisa can't make the switch to their respective new positions then what do we do? Cut Archuleta? Make Pisa a backup?
The whole Arch/Pisa situation is really keeping us from deciding who to go after in free agency.
If the move works out, I'd like to add a LB (Ayodele and Foreman come to mind), someone other than MLB's like Sharper and Hartwell.
If the move doesn't work out we're going to need a starting FS, and as far as I'm concerned, none of the rookies that would be available to us in the 2nd round are polished enough to start from day 1.
EDIT: I put together a little RFA analysis on the Draft/FA Board. Check it out:

If they sign Hartwell, I think trying Pisa at SS would be a great idea.
I think it's not so much putting Pisa at SS that concerns people, it's the fact that Arch would then be playing FS.
Whatever position Archuleta plays this year, he needs to step up.

That's basically what Jay-Z said on the Midwest Sports Report last night. A little disappointing but I'm sure he knows more about the talent that will be available than I would.
Re: What to do with our cap money
With the way things are falling together and the upcoming April draft to include comp picks, the Rams do not have to take a flyer on a FA/UFA.
Unless they can work a favorable Hartwell deal. I do not see a real great DB out there (Surtain included).
Otherwise a wait and spend later posture looks good to me. After the draft - and after 1 Jun, the Rams can look to fill any voids. They may have a better feel for the young O-lineman after the Minicamp (in late March???)...correct me if I have this date wrong.
