what has to happen for us to lock up the #2 pick?

Can someone summarize the situation with the #2 pick? I read barry waller's post earlier in the week but i didnt write it all down. I think barry said that we could wind up tied with kc in which case it would come down to a coin flip. There were a few scenarios that favored us. I know one involved oakland beating tampa but thats all i remember.

Can anyone post the situation in detail. We need to know what to be cheering for.

if Rams "do their part" and just lose to Atlanta - that is the bulk of it....The other is calling "tails" during the coin flip

General Counsel, are you going to Falcons/Rams game this Sunday? I know you live in the A-T-L.......I will be there myself with Mrs. Falconator.

Falconator, i will be at the game. You cant miss me, i will be in row 1 behind the rams bench on the 50 (section 136). I am confident that i will be the only person in that general area in a Marshall Faulk jersey who will be seated with two little girls, one in an Orlando Pace jersey and the other in a Steven Jackson jersey. I will be on the field on the Rams sideline before the game.

If i was a falcons fan, i would be of the following mindset. Dont beat myself with stupid turnovers (which they havent done all year), score tds in the red zone (so the Rams dont hang around in the game) and put 9 guys on steven jackson.

If the Rams lose, there are a lot more considerations than just a coin flip. Its about strength of schedule for the rams and chiefs. Its only a coin flip if the opponents have exactly the same records, which may or may not be the case depending on the results of certain games this weekend.

Re: what has to happen for us to lock up the #2 pick?

from what i understand, if both the rams and chiefs lose on sunday:

the rams will 'clinch' #2 pick if:
    washington beats the niners
    AND
    houston beats chicago
    OR
    the vikes beat the giants.
    OR
    tennesee beats indy
    OR
    oakland beats tampa bay

if the niners win, then we just need 2 of the above to happen.
if niners lose, just 1 of the above.

coin flip (or whatever the next tie breaker is) if:
niners lose and none of the above happen.

    rams pick #3 if:
niners win and none of the above happen.

but the chiefs play the bengals this week and they could win and that would make it easier for all of us!

Personally, I will be looking for a Rams WIN.

I can never bring myself to hope my team loses. Even if it means a higher (more expensive) draft pick.

Sorry dude, that's just the way I roll Know what I mean?

I'm not saying , I'm just saying! Know what I'm saying?

Well, it may very well be since Coach Herm Edwards will "play to win the game."

    Thanks Aussie Dave.

Re: what has to happen for us to lock up the #2 pick?

GC, I know you asked a question about the #2 pick, but if you consider our OL priority and that may be answered with Andre Smith, providing he declares for the draft, it's unlikely KC would take him as they selected Branden Albert last year in round 1 and they have many holes to plug, similar to us. Bottom line, even if we wind up with the #3 pick it is unlikely to impact our selection. The only fly in that ointment is if KC is able to trade the pick. Trading high picks like that has been an rarity as the risk/reward benefit is very high. Enjoy the game.

If I may veer off topic, pay attention to Atlanta's offensive line. They are a group of unknowns, except to Falcon fans, but they sure do get the job done. Ask Michael Turner and Matt Ryan. That is where I would like us to be relative to our OL next year!

    Go Rams!
